LAB #5(44) 2008

this world we create, but my question is: where are the limits? Do we need the same chair re- stailed in a new version yearly? Where are the values of objects, why is the life of objects now a days so short and without importance? Why do we create series of thousands of objects that in short while we will forget and change for the new fashion, trend or color, generating more waste? Things are thought to last short but most of the components are forever? Contradictions that make me wonder and be careful about the commercialization of my pieces, I think me and my pieces are still not ready for it. I never close the doors for anything, but I like to be aware of all these details. I have many friends disap- pointed, demotivated by working in or for big companies where many times the target is just to get commercial success, and all the strategy and manipulation behind kill all their creativity. Many people associate the whimsicality, other- worldliness and fairy-tale charm of your projects with Tim Burton’s cartoon images. Do you think this is a correct statement? Is there anything in common between you? I’m also aware about this association people make about us, but is not a real or conscious relation. But both of us are focusing on a fairy- tale, must be that. Would you describe a person who you create things for and who lives among your creations? Open mind people who wants to make a change. Extroverted, enthusiastic and with a special sensibility for the things that surround him. In September you go to the Architectural Biennale to Venice. I see that the Singletown theme, chosen for the forum this year, is close to you. Would you tell what you want to get for yourself and your work from the exhibition? What further objectives do you have in front of you? Yes, seems that the theme was created for this “pump it up” project, I’m glad I can present it there and It is not clear intentions from it, my wish is to be part of a bigger group that will rise a voice who will tell the same or similar story as I do. I like to see how by doing things we can be heard and make aware people of how we are, how we could be or how we will be. It’s a kind of modern philosophy. The future for me always has been something untrue, and something I always avoid to talk about because many variants can change it, I prefer to be focussed in the present and to get surprised by what will come next. But I can tell you that I will like the rythm and criteria that I’m following now.
