Theodore Roosevelt was an outstanding president. His nickname was Teddy Roosevelt.

President Roosevelt was known for his program called the “Square Deal”. His program protected people, animals, and land.

Roosevelt protected coal miners who were on strike. He talked to the coal miners’ boss. The boss paid the workers more and they got better working conditions.

Roosevelt protected consumers from bad food. Some companies sold rotten meat to people!! Roosevelt said that they can’t do that.

Roosevelt wanted to protect wildlife. He created national forests. He wanted animals to have a place to live.

Roosevelt would not shoot a bear when he was hunting with his friends. So, stuffed teddy bears were named after Teddy Roosevelt.

Roosevelt wanted to protect land. He created national parks. People can hike, camp and enjoy nature there. There are many national parks.

Devils Tower is a National Monument

Roosevelt wanted to protect historical or special places. Devils Tower is in Wyoming. It is a special spiritual place for Native Americans. It is a national monument.

Roosevelt worked out a deal with Panama to have the Panama Canal built. It was a shortcut between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The canal helped businesses ship things faster.

Teddy Roosevelt

10 Roosevelt was a great president. His face was carved on a mountain. The national monument is called Mount Rushmore. It honors four presidents. It is in South Dakota.

Theodore Roosevelt protected people, animals, and land. He died at his home in New York on January 6, 1919.
