PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello Greystone Members! As I begin my year of Presidency, I have been overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of support and insights from each of you, our Members. Your enthusiasm is refreshing and welcomed, and we are going to have another great year at Greystone Golf & Country Club.

First, I would like to express my sincere heartfelt gratitude to Matt Scalici for his amazing and steady leadership during 2019. Through his endless hours and efforts, along with your dedicated Board of Directors, the exciting events and solid changes that are occurring at your Club were all made possible under their leadership, all in his one year. Matt was unwavering in his role and dedication to pursuing the best direction for our Club and all Members. He has continued to build the platform for our Club and positioned us for 2020 to be another outstanding year! I hope each of you will attend the President's Dinner on January 25th to honor Matt Scalici and his outstanding achievements. The passion and excitement that fills the air at Greystone Golf & Country Club is evidenced in each of you as we embark on 2020 with enthusiasm, and a solid plan to stay the course by improving the pathway and experiences for all our Members. The Annual Membership Meeting was well attended, and I thank each of you for being there. The Club's financial position has never been stronger and with clear, concise guidelines and budgets, our General Manager, David Porter and his staff have done a phenomenal job. They found a way to "make it work" when necessary and were ”puttin' on the Ritz" when appropriate. The challenge I presented to each of you to bring in one New Member was sincere and real. Through us all working together to grow membership, we can continue to make bold forward plans to enhance each experience even more. The other challenge is to ask each of you to use your Club. Whenever you are considering where to get hot pizza, a great steak or fish dinner, or just enjoy a cold one, think of your Club. Chef Alan very favorably endorsed our new Italian restaurant, Amici! He has a true flair for Italian cuisine and you will not be disappointed by the menu. There's no limit to the enjoyment you will experience at this new restaurant at the Legacy Clubhouse. It will embrace all the ambience, food and wines you could imagine. Italian cuisine and fine wines... perfecto! So, "I'll meet cha' at Amici!" The month of March will also unveil your new café which will allow you to have your favorite coffee, pastries and WiFi access, all within the confines of your private Club. I know this will become a favorite place to meet your friends for morning brew all the while connected to WiFi to conduct business. Win-win! A special thank you for all who volunteered to serve on Committees. Your input and involvement is totally necessary to keep our Club moving forward in the current positive direction of growth and enhancements. Our Club is committed to pleasing you, our Members. Your satisfaction means you will use your club more including bringing your family and friends regularly. Activity breeds activity and that creates an atmosphere of fun and fellowship for everyone. Using your Club will solidify your dreams for a resort-style pool, a tennis plaza and more wonderful events for the enjoyment of our members.

We have so many exciting things planned for 2020; we will be launching our new restaurants in January. Please look for the details inside the 2020 Dining Guide and on the website. Cellar 91 will relaunch as a family fast casual restaurant with a contemporary southern menu. The launch date is Wednesday, January 8. We will still offer wine down Wednesday, live music on Fridays and also Saturdays now, and will continue our pizza menu for the dining room and delivery. Cellar 91 will be open for lunch & dinner Wednesday -Sunday 11-9 (10pm Friday and Saturday), except when the course is closed and then it will be open for just dinner service, which will open at 5pm. Amici – we will open this Italian themed white tablecloth, contemporary restaurant on Wednesday, January 22 in the Legacy “Falls” Dining Room. Amici will be open Wednesday-Saturday evenings from 5pm-9pm. Café – No need for Starbucks or another local coffee shop anymore. We will be opening the Café, a full- service coffee bar with several specialty drinks, breakfast and lunch items, fresh pastries and mobile ordering. We will increase the wifi service, and provide a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy working, relaxing or meeting with friends. The Café will open Monday, March 9th and will be open daily 6am-3pm. The final plans for the renovations to the Tennis Facility will be complete by the end of January & bidding process complete in February. Once the plans are finalized, we will post them for all members to see the changes. The goal is for construction to begin by April 1st and be completed by June 30th. The courts will also be renovated this summer with re-leveling to proper pitch, new material, proper drainage, new lines, repaired fences and new windscreens.

The 2020 Committees have been established through the committee volunteer process. The staff and I are so excited to begin working with the newly formed committees. We will publish the committees on the website. Thanks to our new Committee Chairs for their willingness to serve with such enthusiasm. Finance – Janice Folmar, Regions Tradition – Ron Stanfa, Dining and Social - Dennis Pauls, Swim/Tennis/Fitness – Chuck Kramer, Golf – Larry Goldberg, Membership Marketing – Mike Manahan. These members are hard working and so dedicated to making Greystone the best it can be. You are represented very well. Membership Growth will be a top focus for 2020 so we can continue to improve and expand the member experience. We need your help by bringing your friends, family and clients to become part of our great Club. We will be substantially increasing our social media presence across all platforms in 2020 to improve our communication with you and create awareness outside of the Club. Our team is working on several upgrades to our app and website for the coming year. This will include mobile orders and geo-fencing which will improve your experience and allow our staff to better serve you. The staff, Board and I are so excited to see 2020 plans come to fruition and create a higher quality experience for you, which in turn improves the value of your membership. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year! May 2020 be the best year yet for you and Greystone. I look forward to seeing you at the Club. Regards, Dave Porter General Manager

GREYSTONE EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTS

CHAD ELDRED DIRECTOR OF EQUIPMENT TECHNICIANS

JOSH WHITEHEAD GOLF SERVICES SUPERVISOR

Chad has been with the Greystone Course Maintenance Department for almost 18 years. Born and raised in a small town of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Chad knew growing up that he wanted to work in the golf industry. He loved being outdoors and watching the course transition through the seasons. As the Director of Equipment Technicians, Chad is based out of the equipment shop. Anyone who visits the shop will meet Stella, Chad’s dog. It has been almost four years now since Stella joined the Greystone family and Chad says that she is up and sitting by the door first thing in the morning waiting for him to get ready. Stella usually makes morning rounds on the course with Chad; running ahead through the wood line looking for anything that will provide her a chase. In the afternoon, she will lay outside the shop doors and bask in the sun. In his free time, Chad, enjoys spending time with family and friends on Smith Lake, playing golf, mountain biking, traveling, woodworking, and restoring a log cabin he purchased in 2017. He also does volunteer work for the Alabaster City Fest and Transverse Myelitis. With his 40th birthday coming up this next year, Chad said that he hopes to cross off one of his bucket list items like playing Pebble Beach, sky diving, or attending the Porsche School of Driving! WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT CHAD: He used to tip the scales at over 300 lbs. He credits his weight loss in part to his first summer here at Greystone working on the course maintenance crew.

Josh was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moved all over the south while growing up. He said that he lived in Wilmington, North Carolina for the longest period of time. It is while living in Wilmington that he began to play golf. His childhood ambition was to be a professional baseball player and he would practice hitting and throwing every day to improve. As luck would have it, Josh pursued golf as his career. Josh first came to Greystone in August of 2013 as the Assis- tant Golf Professional at Founders and then at Legacy for a year. Eventually, he made his way back to Founders and in January of 2017 he began to work with the Outside Services Team. Josh returned to UAB at that same time to complete his college education. He will graduate in May with a degree in marketing. In his free time Josh enjoys spending time with his wife, working on his game, and drinking coffee at his favorite local coffee shop; Seed’s Coffee Co. When asked if he had a dream trip or something that he has always wanted to do, he said that playing golf at Pebble Beach would be at the top of his list. ONE THING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT JOSH: In 2015 he was blessed with the opportunity to go to Nairobi, Kenya for two weeks to minister to locals at five golf courses and to teach golf. During that trip his group worked with two schools in Kibera, a slum of about one million people. He said that it was one of the most rewarding experiences for him.
