m s = Weight of fructose used to make the fructose stock solution (in mg), normally about 100 mg

V a = Volume of fructose stock solution used to prepare the fructose standard solution (in mL), normally about 0.7 mL

1000 = factor to convert mg/mL into μg/mL

DP = average degree of polymerisation of the fructan (i.e. the average number of

monosaccharide residues per chain).

k = correction factor for the uptake of water during hydrolysis.

p = correction factor to correct for loss of terminal fructose in F m
