Spring is coming fast!! I cannot believe we are looking at March next week. I wanted to let you all know that the Commodore’s Cruise was a great success. Lady Susan did an amazing job coordinating all of the people, meals and activities. Photos to follow. The First Mates Fashion Show is Sunday, April 27 at the Mirage 11:30 am, Rumor has it the Entire Flag will be there in full uniform. Reminder to Thank a Board Member!! This team is working really hard for the benefit of all our members, please take a moment to thank them for keeping the club one of the best in the State!! Thank you to Vice Commodore Terry Steinmacher for putting on a fun day at the Arcade. Newsbreak - the Commodore is undefeated in bubble hockey, just saying…. although Rachel Fringer did give me a run for my money. Looking forward to the Blessing of the Fleet at Mariner’s Church in Detroit next month. It is Sunday February 9th. If you are interested in attending, please let me know. Congratulations Members of the Year North Channel Yacht Club 2nd Back to Back Fleet Captains Shelly and Gary Schroka and Our Club Treasurer and Seargent of Arms Christa and Doug Betts. These members have been with us for just five or six years, yet in that time, they have exemplified the dedication and commitment needed to keep our club strong and thriving. From day one, they jumped in wholeheartedly, balancing their weekday responsibilities with their passion for supporting the club. They eagerly contributed to weekday events, whether it was a Poker Run, charity initiatives, or local community gatherings at the Island. They stepped up to assist weekday managers, took on OD weekends, and played an active role in ensuring the club's success.

Congratulations Spirit Award Diane French Diane French joined NCYC in 1981, the same year the club transitioned from Chrysler Yacht Club to North Channel Yacht Club. Since then, she has been a dedicated and active member, making a lasting impact through her involvement and support. She spent years contributing to the First Mates, served three years on the Board of Directors, and played a key role in many of our club’s largest events, including: Golf outings The Ancient Mariners, supporting their many NCYC events—including the ever-popular Meat Bingo! In recognition of her dedication, she was honored as Member of the Year in 2014. Even now, she continues to bring her energy and warmth to the NCYC community, keeping our senior members and snowbirds entertained in Florida. Diane’s spirit and generosity are truly appreciated, and we are proud to celebrate her with the Spirit Award! Congratulations, Diane French!

When Jill and I first joined NCYC, Kevin, Carla, their family, and close friends made us feel truly welcome. Their warm hospitality and dedication to this club set the tone for the incredible community we became part of. Every time I visit NCYC Island, I see the lasting impact of their hard work—whether in the beautifully maintained grounds or the clubhouse enhancements they’ve contributed to over the years. Their efforts have brought joy to generations of NCYC youth, from organizing Duck Races to leading boat-building activities for the Regatta. Always working behind the scenes, they have used their talents to improve our island without seeking recognition. They’ve also ensured our Commodores shine for years, crafting unique and thoughtful boat well signs that have become a cherished tradition. Kevin and Carla, your generosity, creativity, and dedication to NCYC do not go unnoticed. It is with great appreciation that we celebrate you as recipients of the Spirit Award for 2024!
