East Harbor Lease – Update

PC Hall reported the following update:

1) After meeting Kevin Hertel (Michigan State Senator) at the Boat-for-Vets events at Harbor Club on Saturday, June 15th we have some movement in the long delayed renewal of the NCYC East Harbor Lease 2) Thanks to Kevin Hertel's office I received a call from Chris Antieau at EGLE (Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy) on Friday, June 21st to reassure me that the NCYC Lease renewal is still in process. 3) Chris advised that NCYC would NOT be able to purchase the bottomlands that make up the East Harbor. Although some properties have been deeded and sold by the State of Michigan, bottomlands are NOT eligible for sale/purchase. Only islands and mainland. 4) For bottomland leases, only 25 year agreements are being written by the State of Michigan. The 50 year lease that NCYC enjoyed for so long, is NOT an option. 5) Chris suggested that NCYC change from a "marina" status to a "Private Club" status as the yearly lease payment will be less. 6) Chris estimates that the yearly cost will be between $3500-$4000 per year as compared to the $150 per year that NCYC has been paying for 50 years. 7) Chris advised that he has the NCYC application from August 2022 and our payment but, stated that the survey of the NCYC property that was loaded to the website was not legible. I sent a new (scanned) survey to Chris on 7/8/23. Chris also stated that a letter of approval was also needed from the Clay Township Board of Directors & Commissioner. 8) On Monday 7/8/23 I forwarded all the necessary documents to Township Assessor Chari Lawton to get us on the agenda for township approval. Chari stated that the next available meeting was August 5, 2024. I have NOT received a confirmation that we are on that agenda as of this date. - On August 7 th I received confirmation from Chari that our application was Approved at the August 5, 2024 meeting. 9) As soon as we receive the Letter of Approval/Resolution from Clay Township, we will send it to Chris Antieau to continue the process.

P.S.: In the Fall of 2023, Chris Antieau provided a 1 year lease extension to NCYC at the existing price of $150 and assured NCYC that "IF" a new lease was not completed in 2024 that another 1 year extension would be granted.
