Award Winning Spices 29 “A dream come true”, that’s what the Spices 29 team has to say about their recent win at the Restaurant and Catering awards. The business was awarded as the third best Indian Restaurant in the country on 27th October 2025, by the Restaurant and Catering Association. The win comes a month after the restaurant was awarded as the Best Indian Restaurant in Regional NSW by the association. This is not the first time for the business, rather these wins mark a hattrick for Spices 29, which in itself is an unimaginable feat. With 2025 starting off at a high note, the business received multiple awards and recognitions including the BX Business Excellence Awards, Local Business Award, and the Restaurant Guru Awards, making the restaurant a well celebrated entity on the central coast. “2025 has been our biggest year so far and we can’t wait to see what the future holds”, says Nelson. The restaurant first opened its doors in 2018 in the beautiful town of Woy Woy, where in the last 7 years of operation, the business has flourished and become one of the most loved places on the coast. The restaurant offers authentic Indian cuisine with each dish carrying the true Indian heritage and spirit. Unique to its modern yet classy interior, the restaurant has become a widespread name in not only the local community but also at a State and National level.“It’s our customers and their continuous support and faith in us, which drives us to success”, says Nelson, owner and director, as he talks about the win. Starting his career as a chef on the merchant ships, Nelson came to Australia with a dream of spreading his love for food and Indian heritage. It was with the support of his wife, Selma, that he opened Spices 29 with a dream to deliver soulful Indian food. Since day one, both Nelson and Selma have been working hard to support the growth of the business. “I used to cook myself initially, but now that we have dedicated chefs in the kitchen for the past 7 years, I am focused on business growth and marketing”. It’s amazing to see my team in action, makes me content and proud, he adds further. It was a critical time when the business started, by the end of 2019 covid had hit, but to the team’s surprise, the sales grew and they started receiving love from the local community. By the end of covid, Spices 29 was a well established name in Woy Woy with great reviews online and a range of award nominations. With Nelson leading the place with his exceptional skills, the place is set for an upward trajectory.
