Golf Course Operations Another summer is in the books and it has definitely been a hot one! We encountered more stress than normal on the bentgrass greens at Legacy this summer. The combination of persistent heat and nearly 3,000 rounds of golf at Legacy in July led to some thinning in the weaker areas of some greens. We have been very pleased with the recovery that we have seen in those areas. Greens aerification at Legacy is slated for September 6th-September 22nd. Tine sizing will remain consistent with our normal fall aerifications, but spacing could be a little tighter than normal due to an increase in bulk density in our physical properties testing performed on the greens this spring. Heal time in the fall is normally quicker due to higher soil temps and should be in the 4-5 week range for complete recovery.

We have begun preparing our warm season grasses (Bermuda and Zoysia) for winter dormancy by raising mowing heights on tees, fairways, and greens (on the Founders course), and will be making potassium applications soon to increase winter hardiness as well. We are looking forward to the fall! It is a wonderful time of year for golf in Alabama! JasonMiller Direct r of Golf Course Operations jmiller@greystonecc.com (205) 980-5215
