President’s Message Dear Fellow Greystone Members,

It has been a fun summer at Greystone. I hope you were able to enjoy great golf and the many activities the club had to offer.

As we welcome autumn, we can also look forward to a special milestone for our club. September marks Greystone Golf and Country Club’s 25th Anniversary! Mr. Porter and his team are planning several celebration events to mark this great achievement. I encourage you to make plans to attend! This 25th anniversary is truly a time of great celebration but also a time of reflection and gratitude. As I reflect on Greystone’s history, I am reminded how unique this achievement is. Greystone is one of only a few golf clubs that has weathered the hard test of time. Each year of these past twenty five brought with it not only great memories, but its own unique challenges that demanded forward vision and tough decisions. Greystone’s completely volunteer leadership structure has been honored to have highly sought after business men, and as of this year, its first business woman, serve in Executive Leadership. This talent pool of wise counsel and senior oversight of the club’s direction has been invaluable. Greystone’s culture of encouraging committee membership also promoted excellence. Committee members have given countless hours to make thoughtful, researched recommendations on behalf of the membership. So, on behalf of all our members, I want to thank all of these men and women in leadership for their guidance, hard work, and willingness to serve. Their commitment to excellence has contributed greatly to Greystone’s success. Twenty five years ago, our Founding President, Mr. Charlie Tickle, realized his vision for our community and our club. I want to thank him for his forward vision and willingness to take the inherent risk that comes with such a project. He set a standard with Greystone Golf and Country Club that continues to be a benchmark a quarter century later. Most importantly, the backbone of our success is you, our members. Without your willingness to invest in and support its future, Greystone Golf and Country Club would not be possible. Whether you are just joining the Greystone family or a long time member, take pride that you are part of a premiere club that can celebrate the past and look toward a very bright future. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President. It is always an honor. Terry Smith Club President 2016 terrysmith@edgarsbakery.com (205) 910-3917

Message from the General Manager Dear Members, I hope you had a great summer at the Club. I know I am happy with some more structure now that my kids are back in school. We have several things happening in the food and beverage department. Michael Edwards joins our team as the Food and Beverage Manager at Founders. He will be responsible for all of the front of the house service and programs with his main focus on Cellar 91. Michael comes to us from Reynolds Plantation and prior to that he was working at Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta. Brian Lasota will be overseeing the front of the house operation at Legacy. These gentlemen will be in their new positions

by the time you receive the newsletter and will already be making a noticeable impact. Beginning Tuesday, September 6, we will be unveiling daily specialty programs in Cellar 91. See Page 13 for all the details. Also, the wait is over; we will host Chef’s dinner (previously called Falls Dinner) at Legacy on Friday evenings beginning October 7. Our 25th anniversary celebration is coming up September 28-30. On September 29, we will be raffling off a new 3-year lease for a C-Class from Mercedes-Benz of Birmingham as part of our Reach 1,000 Membership Campaign. You still have a couple weeks to refer a friend or colleague for membership before the drawing. The odds are incredible based on the entries. If you refer a golf member you receive three entries; social member 2 entries; and house member 1 entry. You are the top source of helping Greystone reach its goal of 1,000 members. The goal of the campaign is to stabilize dues, develop capital reserves and increase service and quality with a larger base of members using the amenities. Steve Smith and his team are continuing to work on some new golf trips open to all members, as well as some fun events such as Glow Golf, Ladies Night Out, Men’s Night Out, and Big Break Skills challenge. One of the most important assets Greystone has are the two golf courses. We created the Golf Stewardship program this year to focus on the care of these assets. We host a simple and enjoyable two-hour session with Steve and Jason to review all of the proper care and etiquette needed on the courses at Greystone to keep conditions in top playing conditions. Members receive a special bag tag and earn shop credit based on the amount of rounds a steward plays. There are so many exciting things happening at the Club. I cannot wait for you to enjoy yourself with your friends and family! I look forward to seeing you around campus.

Best regards, Dave Porter, CCM General Manag dporter@greystonecc.com (205) 986-5148

Golf Course Operations Another summer is in the books and it has definitely been a hot one! We encountered more stress than normal on the bentgrass greens at Legacy this summer. The combination of persistent heat and nearly 3,000 rounds of golf at Legacy in July led to some thinning in the weaker areas of some greens. We have been very pleased with the recovery that we have seen in those areas. Greens aerification at Legacy is slated for September 6th-September 22nd. Tine sizing will remain consistent with our normal fall aerifications, but spacing could be a little tighter than normal due to an increase in bulk density in our physical properties testing performed on the greens this spring. Heal time in the fall is normally quicker due to higher soil temps and should be in the 4-5 week range for complete recovery.

We have begun preparing our warm season grasses (Bermuda and Zoysia) for winter dormancy by raising mowing heights on tees, fairways, and greens (on the Founders course), and will be making potassium applications soon to increase winter hardiness as well. We are looking forward to the fall! It is a wonderful time of year for golf in Alabama! JasonMiller Direct r of Golf Course Operations jmiller@greystonecc.com (205) 980-5215

Blackburn Golf 2016 has been the first full spring - summer season in the Greystone Performance Center. Our amazing facility allows us to coach players year round. This has yielded some amazing performances from our students. We kicked off the summer with Spain Park winning the boys State Team Championship with 75% of the team either Greystone members or part of our Elite Junior program. The Club Match Play Championship was again won by Academy student, Dr. Todd Reaves. One of our students won the AGA State Match Play Championship, while our elite junior girls contend in regional and national tournaments. Our ladies programs continue to grow under Liz’s guidance with over 140 ladies now engaged in either instruction or regular play days! We are well on the way to our goal of reaching 200 by the end of 2016. September 9th -10thwewill host our Kickoff Classic Golf School featuring the renowned Carl Lohren as our guest Instructor. This School is open to members and guests. It will cover all aspects of

the game, utilizing both Legacy and Founders for on course simulations. During the school, Carl will be sharing his “One Move to Better Golf” approach with members and their guests. The school is structured so you can drop in for specific sessions or attend the entire two day experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how old school and new school teaching can blend together seamlessly for the betterment of the game. Please contact the Greystone Performance Center for further information. Should you need a new experience to entertain or educate client about your business we continue to offer small intimate corporates retreats for groups utilizing our state of the art Greystone Performance Center. Congratulations to Logan Zurn and Nick Dunlap on finishing top 10 in the US Kids World Event! Junior Elite member Logan Zurn and Nick Dunlap both finished Top 10 of the US boys in the 183 player field at the US Kids World event in Pinehurst. Their top 10 finishes secured them both a spot on the prestigious Van Horn Cup Team and a chance to represent the USA vs The World Team. The USA won a close match 5.5 to 2.5 on the histor- ic Pinehurst #2. Greystone was the only club to have two players on the USA team. It not only analyzes how much fat and muscle you have, but it also measures your Total Body Water and divides it into Intracellular Water and Extracellular Water- values important for understanding a user’s fluid distribution in medical, wellness, or fitness contexts. With these water values, you can begin to identify and track inflammation, swelling, and even injuries with ECW/TBW Analysis while monitoring how this ratio changes over time under the Body Composition History chart.
