TE15 Lithuanian Honey Cake
Barbara Korun Jyväskylä, Finland I.
I’m sitting on a bridge high above a lake there’s a line of cars behind my back I’m peeling a giant Spanish orange looking at a giant Finnish lake the sky light blue the lake dark blue only sidelong, round and round just above the distant trim of birches and pines innumerable white clouds
as though I were inside the head of a giant bald man
and ducks swimming below on the lake and seagulls worriedly flying over the bridge as fumbling thoughts inside a head (of this bald man)
me too, me too
only a thought
II. the light that I love
is falling from the window on the floor I sleep on the floor here at the back the sun’s rays are slowly moving
