Gonçalo M. Tavares GonçaloM. Taveres (born in Luanda, Angola, 1970) began his impressive writing career in 2001. His novel, Jerusalem, won the Prémio Saramago and is included in the European edition of 1001 Books to Read Before You Die . In 2010, hewas awarded the Prize for the Best Foreign Book in France for his novel Learning to Pray in the Age of Technology . Nobel laureate José Saramago once predicted upon his first prize in 2005 that he would win the Nobel Prize in thirty years’ time. TE 19-7 John Hartley John Hartley (born in Worcester, UK, 1993) is a schoolteacher and local politician. His Bulgaria series was recently published at The Smart Set, the Drexel University journal. The story “Passing time in Portugal” is based on notes from visits to the region as a teenager. TE 19-8 Manuel Astur Manuel Astur (born in Grado, Spain, 1980) teaches literature at the Escuela de Letras de Gijón in addition to being a writer, journalist, and music producer. He contributes actively to various journals and magazines, and worked as the editor for ARTO! de Madriz from 2008 to 2010. He is one of the founders of the Nuevo Drama artist movement and a participate in the neo-rural Spanish literary trend. Literature Across Frontiers chose him as one of the ten New Voices from Europe in 2017. TE 19-9
