a dormitory, a broad side of windows, trees in front. along the walls two rows of cage-beds. silvia lies near the door, a shapeless mass of flesh, lonely in her lack of contact. silvia, a few weeks old. someone brought her to the intensive care unit in the special section of the children’s hospital in rosen. two faces bend over the white bed. two pairs of eyes glint black and threatening. silvia remains frozen, silvia is being punished, because she is an immobile mass of flesh, shapeless, without face. silvia discerns movement. it means fear, pain, like kicks in the belly. someone smoothes the white cover over silvia’s body.
