observationward “high meadow.” i want to go into the schoolroom. the teacher-lady takes me by the hand. i am not supposed to come to school this afternoon. but i want to go to school. i cry full of fear, next to me the boy from the alsace and a girl with coal black hair. she wears a red and white dress. the teacher-lady pulls me out of the row. children’s home “briar rose.” i look out of the window of the fourth floor. it is a schoolfree afternoon, summer. girls are playing ball in the playground. suddenly something falls past me down upon the asphalt courtyard. immobile the boy lies there. an ugly noise accompanies the impact. days later i try to hang myself. clumsily i attach a sling to a hook in the attic. a strange feeling in my head, an emptiness in my head. i feel no pain.
