Frédéric Pajak
And so I grew up among meager ideas and false sentiments. I was incapable of rectifying them. Faced with this defeat, I feel the impatience of a gravedigger dropping his final shovelful. I know the impossibility of embracing the world, time, and History. There is nothing left of this History, not one bone to gnaw on. It even bungled its own suicide. Nothing living arose. And yet, our dissatisfaction has deepened. We still have the bitter taste in our mouths and it grows in intensity. We have lost hope, but don’t dare admit it. We prefer to say we’re disenchanted. We will be the survivors of a cossetting world.
