John R. Sorrenti is the founder and president of JRS Architect, P.C. Since its inception in 1986, the firm continues to thrive and has received numerous design awards under his leadership. JRS has developed a design expertise in the corporate, education, financial, healthcare, hospitality, retail and residential markets with a strong emphasis on preservation. John is recognized as a pioneer of alternative project delivery methods and marketing strategies. In 2008, John received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Long Island Chapter. Mr. Sorrenti’s work in historic preservation has spanned many years and includes projects with which he is involved as a Commissioner of Landmarks for the Town of North Hempstead, NY. Associated with the organization since 1997 and serving as Chair since 2015, Mr. Sorrenti has been involved with the direction of appropriateness of historic building use in design, material selections and code compliance. He was one of the lead Commissioners in the restoration of the Dutch Revival 1800’s Draper Moore House in Roslyn Heights, which is now the Famed Roslyn Country Club. Mr. Sorrenti worked with the owner and his architect, to obtain the correct fenestration for the addition, roof proportions, exterior materials, lighting and exterior color to bring this once grand building back to life. In 2008 seeing a need for quality preservation of structures, John founded Design Preserve Build Architecture, P. C. For over 20 years, he has been reviewing and directing many architects on the most prudent path to refurbish structures and believed that this new firm could help clients bring to light the best avenues and alternatives to preserve their historic structures. Additionally, he has assisted other historic property owners investigate elements to determine original building materials. Realizing that the exact duplication of materials may not be possible for a variety of reasons, Mr. Sorrenti worked with the owners to identify substitutes that do not mitigate the integrity of the preservation effort. Mr. Sorrenti has also been involved with dozens of renovations and additions to the numerous homes in both the Port Washington Historic District and the Roslyn Heights Historic District. He also served as co-chair of the Town of North Hempstead Historic Preservations Guidelines committee which authored the guidelines for both Historic Districts in the Town of North Hempstead and authored the Certificate of Appropriateness which has been incorporated into the Town’s Historic Preservation Guidelines. Mr. Sorrenti has worked with the Society Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, SPLIA as co-chair for the AIA Long Island Tour Guide to Architecture, which has printed and sold over 5,000 copies of the book. He was instrumental in organizing and deciding along with SPLIA, which buildings would be included into the book.

Mr. Sorrenti has been responsible for several façade renovations and restorations for Chase Bank in NY, NJ and CT. Other noteworthy project work includes the ceiling restoration of 110 East 42nd Street, NY which is now Cipriani Restaurant and the Roslyn Bank Building in the Historic Town of Roslyn, NY. Over the past twenty-five years, he has held such positions as the President of the New York State AIA and Vice President of the National AIA. John is immediate past Chancellor of AIA’s College of Fellows and is an Extended Board Member on the New York State Education Board of Architecture after serving ten years including a term as Chair. Previously, he served a three-year term on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) where he helped to set model law to regulate the architectural laws for all 50 states. In 1989 Mr. Sorrenti on behalf of the AIA helped to form the guidelines for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and in 1993 assisted with the New York City ADA Code. As a result, JRS Architect has successfully completed over 3,000 audits. Mr. Sorrenti has also served on the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) committee for college accreditation programs and has performed reviews of his peers for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). With nearly forty years of experience, Mr. Sorrenti has covered the full spectrum of the design profession, designing many buildings from the ground up as well as numerous relocation and interior design projects. Professional Experience Mr. Chris Rudman joined JRS Architect, P.C. in 2001. He is a graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Registered Architect in New Jersey, Florida and Rhode Island. His passion for maintaining the legacy of historic buildings has led to Mr. Rudman playing a pivotal role at Design Preserve Build Architecture, P.C. (DPB), JRS Architect, P.C.’s historic restoration/preservation subsidiary. He has been lead architect responsible for overall project management and coordination with preservation experts on a number of important commissions. Examples of such are as follows: North Star Academy, Newark, NJ At an historic building located in downtown Newark, Mr. Rudman conducted field assessments to document existing conditions and recommend repair actions to remedy cracking exterior limestone and terra cotta. He was also responsible for the overall project management and coordination of this restoration, working directly with preservation experts and ensuring that the work was completed according to local historic preservation guidelines as well as with This Carriage House was built in 1880 with an expansion in 1908 for the historic Liberty Hall, home to the first Governor of New Jersey, US Congressmen and Senators. Although shuttered for many years, the Carriage House remains as it was many generations prior. As part of a long term strategy to more actively use the building, the first stage was to further stabilize it by replacing the roof with Vermont slate, as it had been previously built. Mr. Rudman was the Project Architect for this restoration. All contract documents and specifications were done in accordance with guidelines of the New Jersey Historic Trust, New Jersey State Preservation Office. Bank of America, Union City, NJ As the project architect for the rehabilitation of this circa 1920 structure, the focus was on façade repair which had experienced heavy water infiltration over the course of many years. Original materials including terra cotta and limestone were aged and weakened, severely compromising the structural integrity of the exterior. Remedial measures included brick, terra cotta and limestone repointing, stitch repair of brick work, terra cotta reglazing and overall stabilization. The undertaking has received a special commendation from SHPO. Capital One Bank, Union City, NJ The scope of services at this banking center has at its centerpiece, the restoration of an ornate 30-foot high by 28-foot diameter dome that opens to the interior, a significant architectural feature of a late-19 th century commercial building. Surrounding the dome are original coffered plaster ceilings that are being restored. The project also encompassed the redesign of the facility to improve customer and employee flow, addition of barrier free access, and upgrading of power and data infrastructures thereby preserving an important architectural gem while satisfying the needs of a 21 st century business. Private Residence, Bedminster, NJ This mid-19 th century farm house had undergone a series of additions during the late-19 th and early-20 th centuries, transforming it into a grand farm-manor home of approximately 10,000 sq. ft. As the home expanded, so did the size of the property and the number of farm related support buildings. A reversal however occurred during the 20 th century with a carving up of the estate and reduction of the home to its current 7,300 sq. ft. Mr. Rudman and DPB are working with the new owners to rebuild a portion of the removed wing as well as to restore and upgrade the remaining structure with particular attention to the home’s historic and geographic context. Mr. Rudman has been the Project Architect on assignments covering a wide variety of other industries and settings. These have ranged from small scope projects to large requirements with multi-million dollar budgets. This versatility can be seen in his work with educators for such clients as Montclair State University and in the corporate sector for long time client Cablevision. His talents have also extended to retail, where he directed projects at two outdated shopping center properties that received a full exterior redesign and led the design work for a third new ground-up, 300,000 sq. ft. shopping center in Pennsylvania with a new urbanism approach that incorporated a community park. He has also worked extensively in the financial services industry with JPMorgan Chase, Roslyn Savings Bank, Capital One Bank, Peapack Gladstone Bank and Bank of America. For Capital One Bank in New Jersey, he was responsible for managing their retail expansion throughout the state. Irrespective of a project’s size or complexity, whether historic or modern, Mr. Rudman initiates a design problem with hand sketches followed by the use of 3-dimensional digital modeling. His approach brings life to the firm’s designs and develops the project into a reality the client can easily experience. Mr. Rudman’s success in this area has benefitted clients in their design discussions as well as relationships with Planning Boards and other necessary approving bodies. He has become the firm’s resident expert in digital rendering and is responsible for imparting these skills to his colleagues.
