Bringing Command Presence Home: An Essential Tool for Work-Life Balance Dr. Rachelle Zemlok , Police Psychologist, Cordico/Lexipol Chief Paul LeBaron , Hermosa Beach Police Department (CA) 1.5 hours education credit Often in this profession we think it’s work or family… we see it as either or. This presentation will equip participants with a scientifically supported skill set, specifically designed for law enforcement professionals, to enhance career success and strengthen family relationships over the course of a career. Potential roadblocks for successful rela tionships will be explored: command presence, promotional exams, specialized assignments etc. Subject matter experts presenting the material provide unique and relatable perspectives to the topics discussed. One presenter has 30 years of law enforcement experience, 30 years of marriage experience, and is an actively serving Chief of Police and FBINA graduate. The other presenter is a police psychologist, first responder spouse, and specializes in providing support to law enforcement families. Dr. Rachelle Zemlok is a licensed clinical psychologist from California and specializes in supporting and educat ing law enforcement families. She is a Strategic Wellness Director at Lexipol & Cordico. Her role there supports the content and national partnerships related to first responder mental health and wellness, with a special focus on supporting the spouse and family directly. Dr. Zemlok is a Fire spouse and currently raising a young family. She is also the sister to three retired law enforcement officers. Prior to joining Lexipol, she founded First Respond er Family Psychology which provides culturally competent therapy to first responders and their family members. She also educates law enforcement families through social media, events, blogs, videos, podcasts, and publica tions including her dissertation, "The Impacts of Police Work on Law Enforcement Families." Chief Paul LeBaron is a 30 year veteran of law enforcement, serving 27 years with the Long Beach Police Depart ment and currently serving as Chief of Police in Hermosa Beach, California. Paul has been married to his wife 30 years and they have 3 adult children. Paul's career includes assignments in patrol, undercover Narcotics, Internal Affairs, Vice Squad, Public Information Officer, and numerous management ranks that required 24/7 on call re sponses. Paul is a graduate of FBI National Academy Class #261, Sherman Block Leadership Institute Class #177 and holds a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia. Paul is a faculty member at his alma mater, CSU Long Beach, where he teaches in the Criminal Justice Department. He sits on the California Police Chief's Organizational Wellness Committee and has made employee wellness a top priority in his life and organization. It uses relevant, recent examples that engages participants in an interesting and informational session created specifically for law enforcement leaders by two in-demand instructors.
