1 MOLE SET This Mole Set contains samples of four different metals and helps students to visualise a mole of a substance in a solid state, as well as developing a better understanding of the concept of the mole, mass, molar mass, along with the differing properties of the various metals. The set contains four element specimens: copper, iron, zinc and aluminium, each containing approximately one mole of the element. Comparison of each sample, side-by-side, clearly shows that the same molar amount of different elements have different masses and occupy different volumes, due to each element having a different atomic mass and density. Cat No. Description Price Per MTR-540-100 Mole Set 20.23 ea. 2 DENSITY CUBE SET A set of cubes for density investigations, consisting of twelve 20mm sided cubes of different materials. Suitable for comparison of mass and density. Supplied in a wooden box, the cubes are numbered and listed on the box so the material type can be withheld from the students if re- quired. Contents: Copper, Iron, Tin, Acrylic, Cork, Softwood, Brass, Aluminium, Zinc, Lead, Polythene, Hardwood. Cat No. Description Price Per MTR-060-100 Density Cube Set 36.37 ea. 2 YOUNG’S MODULUS APPARATUS - SEARLE’S PATTERN -NEW! Apparatus to conveniently allow the study of the Young’s Modulus or stiff- ness/elasticity of a material, by measuring the stretching and deformation of a test wire. This Searle’s pattern version of the Young’s modulus of wires apparatus has a cast metal frame, fitted with a small bubble level, a micrometer screw reading to 0.01mm and a 10-0-10mm Vernier scale. Also fitted to the frame are two wire holders with chuck clamps for holding the wires. A separate wire holder with two chuck clamps is provided for attaching to a ceiling or beam, to clamp the other ends of the wires being tested. A heavy iron tension weight is also supplied for attaching to the reference/comparison wire. Two wires are also supplied, and spare wires are available separately - see MTR-770-150. Also required: Micrometer screw gauge (to measure the wire thickness); Large mass hanger with slotted masses; Long ruler or tape measure (to meas- ure the length of the wire). Cat No. Description Price Per MTR-780-100 Young’s Modulus Apparatus - Searle’s Pattern 57.62 ea. 4 YOUNG’S MODULUS APPARATUS For determining the relationship between a load applied to a wire and the resulting extension. Comprises a scale plate carrying a 0 to 30 mm scale, and a moveable vernier readable to 0.1 mm. Both have bars with clamping screws for the wires and hooks for the tension weight and loading masses. Supplied with clamp for fitting a tension weight. Complete with load masses and wires. Cat No. Description Price Per MTR-770-100 Young’s Modulus Apparatus 55.55 ea. MTR-770-150 Young’s Modulus Set of 6 Wires 12.97 set DISPLACEMENT VESSEL Also known as Eureka cans, these vessels are used for experiments in density, specific gravity and Archimedes principle. The Eureka can is filled with water to the lip of the overflow pipe, and when an irregular shaped object (or a regular shaped one) is lowered into the can it displaces the water, which flows out through the pipe into a collecting vessel below. The volume of this water can then be measured and equates to the volume of the object placed in the can. Using this volume, and the mass of the object, the density can then be calculated. Available in metal or plastic versions. Cat No. Metal Height Diameter Price Per 5 HPL-150-100 Metal 115mm 90mm 8.22 ea. 6 HPL-150-250 Plastic 140mm 110mm 3.06 ea.
