1 LASCELLS POLARIMETER Polarimetry is a rewarding field of study in any Post-16 course to explore the applications of polarised light. This student polarimeter uses a monochromatic yellow LED light source and simplified construction to make the topic available for study in any labora- tory. A 10cm long specimen tube contains the sugar solution under test and this is placed in the body of the apparatus above the polariser and light source. The lid contains the second polariser and has a scale on the outer edge so that as it is rotated the position for extinction can be found for different solu- tion concentrations and the angle of rotation recorded. Full instructions included with everything supplied except a bench 0-10V d.c. power supply. Also available is a A spare flat bottomed glass tube for use with the Polarim- eter. Cat No. Description Price Per OPL-525-100 Polarimeter 69.31 ea. OPL-525-120 Spare Tube For Polarimeter 6.17 ea. 2 POLAROID SQUARE An unmounted Polaroid square for demonstrating the properties of polarized light. Size approx. 48 x 48mm. Please note; sold as a single piece only. Cat No. Description Size Price Per OPL-650-100 Polaroid Square Approx. 48 x 48mm 6.25 pr 3 POLAROID SQUARES, MOUNTED A pack of 10 high quality Polaroid filters, sandwiched between glass to keep them flat, rigid and easier to clean. The filters are also mounted in 35mm slide holder frames, for ease of handling and support, giving an overall size of 50 x 50mm. Cat No. Description Price Per OPL-600-200 Mounted Polaroid Squares 38.28 10pk 4 LASCELLS MALUS’S LAW Students can investigate the relationship between the proportion of transmitted light and the angle of rotation of two polarising filters. A graduated cartridge containing two polarising filters allows students to observe the change in intensity as they are rotated relative to one another. The analyser allows quantitative readings to be taken, using a voltmeter, at five degree intervals as the polarising filters are rotated from minimum to maximum transmission. The output from the analyser changes linearly with light intensity and so the resulting data can be used to verify Malus’s law. Cat No. Description Price Per OPL-625-100 Malus’s Law 116.65 ea.
