MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

ii. In the July 2008 minutes Terry made some recommendations for training at each of the colleges. Now faculty may be training in multiple ways. Now that the contract has been signed there are much better training mechanisms than the generic webinars that are provided via the Wimba website. Wimba will be conducting on-site visits and private training for faculty that are using the product. iii. Wimba will at SBCJC on September 17 th . On September 18 th SBCJC will be ready to discuss the training and roll out plan with all of the DLCs via conference call from 9:00a.m. – 10:00a.m. A follow-up call can be scheduled for those that are unable to attend the morning of September 18 th . Terry would like to defer the activation of Wimba Pronto to Scott Smith, our Wimba Services Manager. Scott may have an implementation plan that would work best for our consortium. ii. Currently when you activate it within Blackboard all users can see one another‘s names in the chat window. There is a system control that the instructor can use to turn Pronto off. iii. Terry felt that it was import to review policies and procedures for communication tools used within courses. Jennifer Leimer mentioned that there has never been a complaint with the pager function within Desire2Learn. She added that the Respondus Lockdown Browser would block the student’s ability to use chat while taking an exam. Buffy requested that all schools provide a list of software requirements that are needed for their proctored exams. These would include things such as Course Compass (MyMathLab), Microsoft Office, etc. Each school should email Buffy their requirements for proctored exams. She will compile those lists and email to the association and Ms. Julia Parker will add to the Bb Community site. If possible, please have this information submitted to Buffy by Friday, September 12 th so that we can ensure it is available for the first proctored exams. ii. Jennifer Leimer also asked that we come up with a date to delete proctored exam information from the MSVCC Enrollment Tool. The information was purged for the fall semester, after instructors had already added their updates for the fall semester. Christian stated that this feature does not roll from semester to semester, and suggested that we delete the information at the end of each term.
