MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

noted that faculty do not know how to notify students with the tools that are required. Terry stated that, that information is included in this three-week course. viii. State board recognized that we need more access to training. Each school is swamped with multiple tasks. They felt that we needed to determine (1) What training needs to be done? (2) How do we best deliver that training? They have thought a lot about the type of training that we currently provide. For future courses they would like to show the faculty how the training would benefit them in the end. Rather than sending Terry traveling throughout the state, they would like to design short virtual courses for faculty to complete for training purposes. The DLCs can help promote these virtual trainings at their institutions. Most of the courses will be short three-week courses. We need more collaboration with training. Knowledge experts from each college can step up to help build these courses. There is no need to build courses that others are not going to use. We need to work on courses that we can all use. The ELT group will help with the evaluation process to ensure that the course is designed in such a way and includes good content. There will still be training that you do on your campuses. ix. Wimba tab in Blackboard. The Wimba tab has been added to Blackboard. There is a support link, a resources link, and status information. d. Creating Futures through Technology Pre-Conference Updates. This is the first year that we will be launching pre-conference workshops in conjunction with CFTTC, but will be adding this for future conferences. Currently there is no change for attending these sessions. All participants will need to sign up for the pre-conference workshops separately than the CFTTC conference. All DLCs need to submit track B participants to Christian. He will have to sign those participants up. Each school should submit two people for this track. All other participants can sign up for Track A via the website (go to the CFTTC conference web page, click on the MSVCC link). The MGCCC IT department is setting up fifteen workstations at the Beau Rivage for hands-on training. SBCJC, in conjunction with the AT&T grant, will be reimbursing one car per college with a reimbursement of 25 cents a mile. e. MGCCC IT will bring fifteen workstations to the Beau Rivage for this hands-on training. Reimbursing one car per college with a reimbursement of 25 cents a mile. If you are attending B they get a free lunch. For the first fifty-five attending session A will be eating for free. The sign in/registration sheet is listed on the main CFTTC site on the MSVCC link, click Pre- conference registration. They have the cap for track A currently set at 55 individuals for each session. Each college will submit the two individuals for i. Timeline for February 24-25 ii. Committee tasks and sign-up f. Instructor of the year award. We would like one of the committees to help with this task. We would like to develop a registration packet for application to the Instructor of the year award. An impartial committee will need to review the applications and make a determination. Final compensation may be available, such as a one year membership to SLOAN. We would like to present this at the April President’s meeting.
