MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

have two call centers, one located in Phoenix, AZ and the other in Cleveland, OH. The focus of their business is phone, email, web, chat, and self-service. Their client base is 100% referable. They will provide a list of all clients and we can choose which organizations we wish to contact for references. There is the possibility of remote agents, which means that if we had enough client base there could potentially be a call center in Mississippi for MSVCC. Generally PerceptIS likes to have fifteen agents in place on the remote agency systems, and these agents serve a client base of approximately 100,000. b. ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS – Phyllis Johnson. Last semester she experienced a situation with students with special needs taking a course through another college. She looked at our policies, but found the information very vague. Is the Disability Coordinator at the hosted or provider college responsible for student accommodations? Buffy stated that the coordinator from the hosted college would be responsible. This ADA Coordinator has met with the student and has all of the necessary paperwork to back up the accommodation. The hosted institution’s DLC should forward the accommodation request to the providing institution’s DLC. That DLC is then responsible for forwarding the accommodation to the instructor. If the student’s needs are not being met, then that student should contact their representative on their college campus. The providing college should follow the accommodation request from the hosted college. Martha Lou Byrd stated that MSVCC should develop a statement which says that all DLCs agree to follow the ADA Accommodation forms that are provided from the hosted institutions. This issue will be discussed with Christian Pruitt so that he can check with a state board representative on any legal issues with ADA Accommodations and hosted/provider institutions. c. TRAINING AND SELF-ENROLLMENT – Terry Pollard. Two years ago DLCs went through the MSVCC Teaching Effectively online course. Having DLCs complete this training was beneficial so that each of you could answer faculty questions with regards to the training itself. Terry would like to offer all DLCs the opportunity to participate in the three-week Wimba courses being offered this semester, as well as the two week Blackboard Early Warning System course. The Wimba course will take approximately one hour per week. You will need a headset and a microphone to complete this course. He would like to begin offering this course on Monday, March 23 rd . The Blackboard Early Warning System course will take participants approximately thirty minutes a week to complete. They would like to offer this course beginning March 8 th . Terry Pollard will be facilitating the Wimba course, while Jenny Jones (Holmes CC) facilitates the Early Warning System course. Terry will be providing everyone with more information soon. Since we are moving forward with the MSVCC Teaching Effectively, Wimba, and Blackboard Early Warning System training courses, we would like to look at the possibility of self- enrollment. The Bb Community system allows us to release tabs and modules by role. We would like to advertise upcoming professional development and self-registration through these tabs. He would like it to allow up to fifteen enrollments per course. Once the course
