MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

they will do voice tools, Respondus, grade center, beginning Bb. They can either come to the campus or take these through the state. Have a lot of off-campus instructors and are trying to use the courses online. They are building mini workshops in soft-chalk rather than building a course out in Bb. (13)PRCC – new online instructors are not required to take training courses, but they do recommend the TEO course. We have it set up in banner that instructors have to come to at least one training session before their courses become available in Bb. That is typically the Bb beginning level course. The other training courses are optional. Christian stated that the MSVCC Academy is not taking away from what you all do at the individual colleges, but is an addition. We are becoming technology heavy with the additional tools that we are adding. What do you think about our catalog? Is it comprehensive? Do we need to add to it? What is something on your campus that we may can take and add to our catalog? Chris stated that he felt that the TEO course has been good and it is a great compliment that we now offering more courses. We are such good sharers of other resources; we need to share things like training as well. Derrix added that these types of courses allow you to see what others are doing throughout the state. Christian asked that we send an outline or overview for some of these courses and add them as courses or additions to current courses being offered. Terry would like to talk with some of you about facilitating future courses. Certificates for previous semester courses will be mailed next week for the Voice Tools Course, and then they will send out the TEO course, lastly the EWS. Julia requested that Terry Pollard email the group the Professional Development Catalog so that we can also send information to our faculty electronically. COMMITTEE REPORTS. a. Best Practices – Terry Pollard. Wimba was asked to survey students on the use of Wimba at each of the schools—for those users who have adopted the tools at this point. Just a way to poll and get information from students. More information will be covered in the professional development. Terry requested permission from the group to build the survey and share that information with those top users and the group agreed. b. Technology – Chris Square (chair). This committee would like to look at the Enrollment Tool Roles (see item IV. a. for more information). They would also like to follow up on some requests that were made in the past: (1) Has the decision with Ive taken place on why we have to create faculty members twice when creating them as a faculty and again as a user. Christian did talk with Ive and we are required to build them twice in the Enrollment Tool. (2) Will we give DLCs the rights to view all proctored exam passwords, without having to log in as proctors? Ive said that this could be done, but our search would be limited. We would only be able to see that as the proctors do. (3) Jennifer said that we had made the request the move the duplicate button after the “modify” button. Christian will double check the status of this request.
