MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

(4)We also need to check into the issue with duplication of course seats. Once registration has opened, we are unable to “dublicate” a course without it also duplicating the course seats. We are required to contact Christian for him to reset those seats. Christian will follow-up on this issue with Ive. (5) We also made the request to have overall course statistics posted at the bottom of all class grade sheets. Christian will follow up with Ive to see where we are with this request. (6) Christian needs to fix the faculty evaluator role in the MSVCC Enrollment Tool. c. Quality – Jennifer Leimer. She has been working with her committee on two of their four main goals. They are currently focusing on goal one (dealing with course/instructor) and three (dealing with student evaluations). As part of that she emailed a survey to all DLCs yesterday afternoon, which was also provided at today’s meeting. Please complete this survey as soon as possible. We would like as much feedback as possible in order to move forward with our goals. The current evaluation process is confusing and we would like to revamp these surveys in the Enrollment Tool. We may also want to look at changing the entire process. Holly stated that it took approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. If you think of additional questions, please place those in the comments section. d. Support – Audra Leverton (chair). Audra has been out of the office. Our committee would just like to remind everyone that anyone who proctors exams needs to sign the proctor confidentiality agreement and return that to your DLC office for records. Presidium also falls within support. She has received word that some schools received escalation tickets for the Blackboard downtime that we are currently experiencing. Presidium has been on the weekly calls with Blackboard, but did not make their staff aware of the scheduled downtime. e. Administration – Tish Stewart (chair). See item IV. b. Boot Camp. LEARNING CIRCLE a. Holmes Community College – Tish Stewart. Went to Bb World in Washington, D.C. and provided pictures of Jenny presenting. She had a room full of people who attend her session at the conference. They received good information about Bb 9 and will be sharing more of that information at boot camp. The learning circle is on “Death by Meetings.” Dr. Boyce provided her this book a couple of years ago. She related this book to a lot of what we do at our monthly DLC meeting. It is important that we make these meetings meaningful for everyone, especially since several have to travel a long way to be here. In the book, “Death by Meetings,” there are four types of meetings: (1) Daily Check-in, (2) Weekly Tactical, (3) Monthly Strategic (or Ad Hoc Strategic), and (4) Quarterly Off-Site Reviews. We are currently conducting the monthly meetings, but do we all do research and prepare for these meetings? If not, we need to so that we can ensure that we are participating to the fullest. Our group also conducts the annual boot camp, which is similar to what he refers to as quarterly off-site reviews. This time allows us to come together and work hard to complete tasks. It is important not to have interruptions during these both types of meetings. That is one reason why we have scheduled thirty minute breaks during boot camp. We would like to give all of you the opportunity to check email, make phone calls, etc. Remember, conflict is not always bad! We can learn and grow from conflict. It is important to express your
