MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

time frame, because nominations are due December 16. January 27 the CAOs will have their rankings back to the MSVCC. February 10 th the decision would be made. iii. Buffy Matthews made a motion that we accept an electronic vote (one per college) for IOY changes once they are available. Phyllis Johnson seconded. Motion carried, and the vote will be sent out next week. b. Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 MSVCC Calendars (Buffy Matthews) i. The CAOs met in October and requested that the MSVCC go back and look at our calendars for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 and make recommendations for approval. They aren’t looking to get this calendar until Fall 2017, and will approve then. Since the CAOs have met, a few colleges have found issues with the MSVCC calendar. ii. MGCCC will come up with proposed calendars for the MELA group to look over in January. At that time, ELCs can bring the calendars to their CAOs at their campus to look over. After the MELA group votes, we can then provide that to the CAOs to approve for their October 2017 meeting. i. In our last meeting we discussed the possibility of having AspireEdu available in traditional courses. Currently this tool is only available in online courses. ii. The price will decrease as a whole (possibly $2.50 per student, rather than $3.50 that we currently pay) if traditional courses are incorporated, but negotiation would still need to take place. Also, if you are willing to strongly use AspireEdu for traditional courses, schools can participate in a pilot. 1. Note, instructors must fully use Canvas (grades, all assignments with due dates, etc.) in order for AspireEdu to work. iii. A vote was taken to see which institutions are interested in an AspireEdu pilot for traditional courses. Coahoma, MDCC, ICC, Hinds, JCJC and Holmes were interested in incorporating AspireEdu on select courses for the pilot. i. Some Holmes students have had issues getting proctored appointments. A couple of schools are having issues in treating a non-student of theirs differently (24-hour time frame, walk-ins, etc.). ii. Also, some instructors are requiring the scratch paper provided during proctoring to be physically mailed back to the instructor (requiring the proctor to pay for postage, etc.). Holmes is requesting that proctors be able to scan scratch paper after a student tests, rather than mail it. iii. 4-week classes (2 nd week of class is during Thanksgiving week). If you pulled in a 4- week class, you have to have proctor services available. b. Proctor Lab Procedures (Tish Stewart)
