National Certifications Discussion (OPAC Test) with Angela Bryan 1. It is required to have a measure of technical skill attainment in CTE programs. Angela Bryan discussed a movement among colleges in the state to move away from the exit exam, CPAS, to national certification exams. CTE Deans and Directors have been working on a policy document of how to implement exam requirements, through an updated Standards Manual. The OPAC test will be implemented FA17 and SP18 for some programs (mostly BOT); however, this depends on negotiation and contracts with exam vendors. 2. Krista mentioned that recently a certification exam was required in an MSVCC online course as a proctored exam. Colleges should keep this in mind because the certification exam cannot be taken virtually, other colleges may pull in the course, etc. a. If you have a CTE course that requires the OPAC exam, or other certification exam as part of the course, please list it in the ET Notes section for the course. That way, other colleges can easily see the requirement. b. Krista will set up a Sub-Committee to discuss this further with CTE folks. There are many items that will need to be discussed as to how this exam will affect online courses and testing. Budget FY18 1. Krista e-mailed the group a copy of the tentative FY2018 MSVCC Budget. a. We are seeing a decline in USM’s participation, and they have not entered into a new MOA. USM is under new leadership. They are offering a lot of their own online courses, but are using us for certain math and science classes. Contract Renewal Timeline 1. Krista emailed the group a FY2018 Streamlined Expenses spreadsheet. This document lists all contract term dates. Turnitin 1. We previously voted to renew our Turnitin contract for 1 year. New regulations have come forward, and state agencies have more legislative regulations. Because Turnitin is a sole-source product, ITS requires a minimum of a 2-year contract. a. VOTE: Buffy Matthews made a motion to renew the Turnitin contract for a 2-years. Kimberly Ellis seconded. Motion carried.
