year," says Petri e. "It is designed to help prepare us to play in the West Coast Conference. By playing ranked opponents early, we should be ready to face the top teams in the WCC." Petrie is continu ing a recent tradition at USO that has seen five Torero teams in six years qualify for postseason play. USO has been picked to match last year's finish of third in the West Coast Confer- ence behind #8 Pepperdine and #24 Santa Clara, however Petrie has set the bar higher for her Toreros in 2002. "As this program grows so do our expec– tations," comments Petrie. "This year we are striv– ing to win a WCC Championship and to take an– other step in the NCAA Tournament. We are train– ing with no limitations to our success." Senior s Noel Frohman and Debra Robertson have assumed leadership roles as the 2002 Torero team captains. Both players are three– time all-conference selections and are expected to be dominating players this fall. Frohman re– turns for her senior year after leading the WCC in kills (426) and rank ing among the league 's best in virtually every offensive category as a junior. Robertson is a fifth-year senior middle– blocker that will anchor a Torero line-up loaded with young talent.
