Maharaja’s Villa ES SAADI GARDENS & RESORT

Two BedroomRiad SELMAN MARRAKECH

The names of the villas at this traditionally Gallic hotel next to the ritzy Marrakech casino indicate their atmospheric individuality, but none are as ravishing as the Maharaja’s Villa, inspired by Raj-era glamour. This two-level suite is an Aladdin’s cave of embellished maximalism – gilded mirrors, surfaces topped with antique silver and velvet sofas. Above the antique furnishings and swagged four-poster bed is an intricately patterned domed ceiling under which past guests including Leonardo DiCaprio have lain. It also has an upstairs room and large pool. Special amenities Treatments from the only Dior Institut spa in the country. Butlers will erect tents in the garden and rustle up a Berber-style party. Size 2,798 sq ft. Number of bedrooms Two Weekly rate $18,000 Contact Ludovic Le Baud, chief operating officer, +212 524 337 400, dirpalace@essaadi.com, essaadi.com

The dramatic, two-bedroom riad at Selman Marrakech – another Jacques Garcia extravaganza – is a stunning large hotel whose unique selling point is the presence of a stud housing some of the most expensive horses in the world. The Riad’s black and gold color scheme, complete with gilded urns, velvet sofas and tinkling fountains has all the amenities you’d expect, as well as a pool and butler. There’s a sexily playful vibe in the swagged walls and studded furnishings. Special amenities Private tours of the stables and access to the Arabian steeds (no riding, though they will arrange private lessons elsewhere for guests), Henri Chenot in-room spa treatments.
