Inventory Before moving in, a complete inventory should be taken, indicating the condition of all furnishings and fixtures. The tenant and landlord should each sign the inventory and keep one copy of it for future reference. Many tenants do a thorough inspection, checking for leaks and cracks in the walls, plumbing and appliances, and having the power company check the wiring and gas connections. Other areas of concern should include the central heating, the meters and main switches, fuses, cut-off valves, and drains.

During the Lease The tenant is sometimes required to undertake refurbishing at his own expense (renewal of wallpaper, painting and plastering of walls and ceilings, floor/parquet/carpets, radiators and pipes, the inner doors, windows and outer doors on the inside, skirting boards) in a professional manner when needed, this will be determine in the negotiation of the lease. Waste Disposal Regulations and Public Sanitation Community health standards are very high in The Netherlands, comparable to those found in the cleanest cities anywhere in the world. Garbage is collected twice every week. Recycling is practiced everywhere, and the same European standards are held. Streets and walkways are generally kept swept and washed at all times. Household Garbage When renting a house or an apartment, the landlord usually provides the tenant with a various number of garbage cans. Each garbage can is for unique materials so be sure to follow the federal guidelines below: + Household chemicals: batteries, paints and thinners, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, cleaners, bleach, motor oil and other automotive fluids, chemicals, medical supplies, metal cans and metal scraps, pressurized containers, and their contents. Items must be disposed collection at the hazardous waste facility + Dead animals + Yard trimmings. Must be disposed of in the bin/cart for organic waste + Computer Equipment items must be disposed of with the next collection at the hazardous waste facility + Any plastic material or packaging as it can be recycled and must be collected in yellow bags + Any glass bottles and jars as they are collected separately at glass collection facilities + Any toys and clothing. Your local thrift or resale store might be interested in them + Paper must be put into paper carts or collected at local paper collection facilities Helpful Hint: A considerably high fine might be charged if recyclable materials are placed in garbage containers.
