EU - Source: EAFO (2019), ERF, ACEA (2018); *Motorways, main or national roads, secondary or regional roads, and other The total number of charging points for electric vehicles in the EU was 193,686 in 2019. Of those, 76% were found in four countries: the Netherlands, Germany, France, and the UK. The European Commission estimates that in 2030 the EU will need at least 2.8 million charging points for electric vehicles (European Commission, 2018). In the next ten years, therefore, the current number will have to grow by about fifteen times. The largest number of charging points per 100km of road network is available in the Netherlands (36). Luxembourg follows (33), and then Portugal (21) and Germany (17). In the Czech Republic there are 1,049 charging points, which works out to 0.8 per 100km of road network. From Table 2 one can see that all the states with less than one charging point per 100km have a market share of electric cars of less than one percent. The only exception is Hungary, where the number of charging points per 100km is 0.33 and the market share of electric vehicles is 1.5%. 4. Conclusion This paper reviews the investment incentives for purchase of electric vehicles in selected member states of the EU and evaluates the relationship between national wealth and the share of electric vehicles in sales of new vehicles in the individual member states. There are major differences in the level of financial support provided by EU countries for the purchase of such vehicles. Only twelve EUmembers offer some form of incentive for the purchase of electric vehicles. Four member states offer neither monetary incentives nor tax breaks: Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland. On the basis of the data we have gathered, it can be said that the share of electric vehicles on particular markets is dependent on the wealth of the member state. Those states whose GDP per capita exceeds 30,000 euros have at least a two percent market share of electric vehicles. The only exception is Portugal, where GDP per capita is only 18,110 euros but the market share of electric vehicles is 3.4%. The availability of infrastructure for recharging electric vehicles also has an influence on how widespread electric vehicles 193,686 100.0%
