3.2 Structured light Digital Sensor consists of one stripe LED (Light-Emitting Diode) light projector and one or two cameras. The LED module produces high contrast patterns allowing a high-resolution scanning of the scene. LED light is modified by slide with lines to create bands on objects. Algorithms process the line from 3 directions. Depth is obtained from the deviations using a technique similar to triangulation which consists on calculating the intersection between planes and lines (Salvi Mas, 2006). 3.3 Laser triangulation Distance measurement technique based on triangulation principle works by emitting a laserbeamandcalculatesthelaserpointdisparityoftheobjecttogetthedistance;itisakind ofimageprocessingtechniqueandwithasimplemechanism(BuerkleandFatikow,2000). The laser emitter emits a laser beamon the object. The diffused light reflectedby the object is collected by the lens and imaging a spot on the CCD (Frischer, 2010). Considering that the laser beam projected on the object is parallel to the center of the principal axis of the camera, the distance can be calculated using triangulation principle (Pérez, Rodríguez, Í., Rodríguez, N., Usamentiaga and García, 2016). Laser non-contact techniques have changed considerably in recent years. Although initially sensors gave isolated points, the technology has quickly spread to 2D sensors, measuring across a dotted line and collecting multiple points in a single frame (Selami, 2020). If the piece is moving under the sensor (or vice versa), the 3D model of the surface can be generated. In this case it is necessary to move the piece or the sensor. In other words, it is necessary to scan the piece. 3.4 Robotic car wheel assembly Robotic vehicle wheel assembly process for large series production based on camera sensor represents innovation in automation assembly lines. This process is usually provided manually by the production operator. In today’s modern car assembly lines typical mounting applications require enormous amounts of manpower due to the different car wheel types and high requirements in assembling accuracy and speed. For this application SHAPEMATCH3D sensor is used. It consists of a single camera and a multi-line LED-projector that projects 6 lines into the measurement Field Of View (FOV). The function is based on GigE technology and uses stripe light projectors and integrated area illumination to obtain relevant feature information from the parts being analysed. Based on this information the sensor provides precise object positioning. The high level of redundancy of the stripe light projector with 6 lines as in Figure 1, ensures robust and precise measurement results (Isra Vision, 2019).
