AtlantiCare’s unwavering vision is bringing the best possible health and wellness services to southern New Jersey. Our experts are at the heart of all we do. You are invited to learn more about the AtlantiCare team – and consider being part of our mission to deliver exemplary care to those who need it most.

AtlantiCare has evolved from a single, small-town hospital to an expansive healthcare system featuring two major medical centers, more than 100 locations and thousands of employees and partner providers.

Much has changed since that hospital opened back in 1898. Today’s AtlantiCare is southern New Jersey’s largest, most comprehensive and sophisticated healthcare provider – with a network of services covering the entire spectrum of health and wellness. One thing hasn’t changed: our daily focus on investing in infrastructure, technology and talent to deliver the region’s best possible healthcare. That’s the AtlantiCare difference, a true commitment to excellence, now and tomorrow. A member of Geisinger since 2015, today’s AtlantiCare is at the forefront of a healthier community, thanks to providers like you – the best, brightest and most qualified. It’s a team of exceptional professionals you will be proud to call your peers. You are invited to join us, building the future of healthcare, right now. It’s a land of contrasts, diversity in landscapes and communities, each marching to the rhythm of a unique heartbeat. With quiet, out-of-the-way hamlets. Quaint, Main Street towns. The 24/7 Rock ‘n’ Roll party of Atlantic City. Acres of pristine forest. Boardwalks and piers bursting with light and color of thousands of family-friendly diversions. Miles of white sand beaches. Fishing villages that time forgot. All built on a foundation of solid neighborhoods, of hard-working people raising children in highly rated schools and a culture that puts family first. That’s the southern shore in one paragraph. But it’s so much more – unique in many ways and unlike just about any other place. If you spend any time here, you are sure to hear this expression: once you get South Jersey sand between your toes, it’s easy to fall in love with the place. Even better, AtlantiCare’s service footprint occupies a place like none other in the mid-Atlantic – the southern seashore of New Jersey – one of the East Coast’s best-kept secrets.

We invite you to spend some time getting to know the health system we’re so very proud of, the rich tapestry of locations we serve and the people who make them both truly special.

AtlantiCare’s story begins in 1898, when Atlantic City Hospital opened with just 10 beds. Improvement and investment has continued since those early days – with the first major expansion to the hospital coming just a few decades later. In the 1970s, Atlantic City Medical Center built a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Atlantic City and a new mainland campus in Galloway Township. Expansion continued through the 80s and 90s, with the addition of a Level II Trauma Center in 1991.

AtlantiCare Health System was formed in 1993 with plans for significant infrastructure growth. Since then, AtlantiCare has invested millions of dollars in new services and facilities.

Ground was broken on the first AtlantiCare Health Park in Egg Harbor Township in 1999. Since then, additional Health Parks were built in Cape May Court House, Hammonton and Manahawkin – each making ambulatory and outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services more convenient to more people. After a decade of active strategy development, the 2000s saw a flurry of activity, with millions invested to build and expand cutting-edge services, including: • The region’s only cardiac surgery program at the Heart Institute • A new Emergency Department, Center for Childbirth and Cardiac Catheterization & Rhythm Center at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus in Galloway • Opening the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute, a Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner, with locations in Egg Harbor Township and Cape May Court House • A commitment to upgrade services and facilities throughout the entire Mainland campus, with a transformation and modernization initiative, including building the Rothman Institute Pavilion for Orthopaedics • Building a network of Urgent Care centers • Opening ambulatory surgery centers in Egg Harbor Township, Little Egg Harbor and Cape May Court House • A fully equipped Satellite Emergency Department in Hammonton. • A transformation of AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus with the opening of the George F. Lynn Harmony Pavilion, new Emergency Center, Trauma Center and patient tower • Special Care centers in Atlantic City and Galloway, providing life-saving care for adults with chronic medical conditions • AtlantiCare Health Solutions, Inc., a not-for-profit health accountability organization • AtlantiCare Physician Group, a network of highly skilled physicians, nurse practitioners and other providers in both primary and specialty care • The AtlantiCare Health Park in Manahawkin, with convenient, one-stop services including primary and specialty medical care, imaging, pharmacy and urgent care • Federally Qualified Health centers (FQHC) in Atlantic City and Galloway, providing coordinated health and wellness services for patients with limited financial resources and insurance Partnered with Geisinger, AtlantiCare is well positioned to continue to lead, with even greater investment, laser-focused on future needs. AtlantiCare is taking on the 21st century’s greatest health challenges - like cancer, substance use disorder and healthier lifestyles – with dedication, innovation and expertise from professionals like you.

Climb a lighthouse. The shore has five of New Jersey’s eleven, including the tallest – Absecon Light, right in Atlantic City. A multi-cultural tradition of music and entertainment continues to this day. Nightlife and live entertainment play a huge role in the life of the shore – with world-class stars of stage and screen converging weekly in the famous showrooms of Atlantic City and Asbury Park, at the Ocean City Music Pier and the Performing Arts Center of Stockton University. One of its greatest assets: miles of white-sand beaches and world-class summer fun for beach lovers. Long Beach Island to Cape May, New Jersey’s southern beach towns make a chain of jewels sparkling in rainbow hues. Each community is unique in its outlook, culture and pace. Historical landmarks, natural splendor, family-friendly attractions, 24/7 glitter, trendy downtowns, manorly enclaves, and eclectic cityscapes await. Quiet getaways to Main Street USA, high-rise resorts to handsome, tree-lined streets – the shore is abundant with intriguing shops, boutiques, eateries and meeting places. It could take you a lifetime to explore them all, each special in its take on living by the sea.

For shopping, the shore is home to a balanced blend of both big-boxes and independent stores – many on traditional main-street avenues, where eclectic treasure hunting awaits in unique boutiques, co-ops and antique shops. Foodies love it here, too. From linen tablecloths to dockside seafood, modern gourmet to historic mom-and-pops, a vast selection of eateries awaits, both on the shore and the mainland – where wineries, breweries and distilleries also hone their craft. The diversity in dining options is impressive. Celebrity chefs rub elbows at the casino resorts, among nationally-known steakhouses and five-star names. Award-winning gourmet in intimate Cape May dining rooms. Historic, traditional favorites up and down the coast. And about anything else you crave: Asian, Greek, fusion, vegetarian, barbecue and more.

For the athletic type, the southern shore is a terrific place to hike, bike or run. It’s not as crowded and congested as much of the rest of the state and that makes for some- beautiful places to get out and get moving in the fresh air. It’s dotted with some of the best golf courses in the East, including the 1914 Hugh Wilson–Donald Ross Seaview Bay Course, home of the annual ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer and site of Sam Snead’s first major win in the 1942 PGA Championship.

Naturally, it’s a haven for fishing – with both deep-sea trophy hunting and casual spots to drop a line on a lazy afternoon. Harbored in marinas from Cape May to Manahawkin, a massive charter fleet accommodates anglers of every kind. From docks and public bridge access, families ply the waterways for sportfish and crab. Freshwater fishing awaits on the mainland, too.

The Jersey Shore practically invented family fun. The seashore is world-famous for amusement rides, miniature golf, water parks, live entertainment and treats to eat on broad and picturesque seaside boardwalks and promenades.

In fact, our region is home to one of the world’s most treasured wild bird habitats, attracting birdwatchers from around the globe. Great tracts are preserved and set aside for native plants and animals – like the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, plus many more thousands of dedicated wildlife acreage managed by state and regional organizations. Also nearby, the Pinelands National Reserve encompasses over a million acres of protected pine forest. These natural treasures have inspired many nature centers, parks, and other learning centers devoted to celebrating and preserving the environment. Families learn about seaside habitats at the Wetlands Institute near Stone Harbor. Cape May County Park is home to an award-winning zoo. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine is dedicated to protecting and preserving seals, dolphins, whales and other sea life. That’s the real secret of what makes this place so special. With the beach, bays and inland pine forests, every day feels like you’re getting away – but it’s blessed by geography that makes it easy to access the best of the rest.

The southern seashore’s housing market is all about diversity. Like its geography and towns, the selection comes in a wide variety. There’s a home for every lifestyle, taste and family – condos and townhomes, main street apartments, cul-de-sac streets of crisp single-family houses, waterfront cottages, stately beachfront estates and everything in between. So many places these days seem to offer a limited selection of cookie-cutter subdivisions. That’s simply not the case here. We have subdivisions, but they tend to have more character and variety than our neighbors to the north and west. Unlike New Jersey’s big-city suburbs, the choices go way beyond the ordinary. Southern New Jersey’s geography is a unique blend of ocean, bay, cityscapes, forests and meadows – and its neighborhoods take advantage of each unique locale. If you appreciate a big sky, the inland water- way offers horizons as far as the eye can see. Homes nestled among the mixed forest of pine, cedar and oak are prized by those who value privacy, quiet and the sights and sounds of wildlife. City dwellers have options, too – with neighborhoods both on the sea and on the mainland, each with its unique vibe and beat. In the beach towns, the choice is even greater – with quaint seashore cottages, condos with amazing views, solid, historic homes and custom-built architectural gems on the waterfront. Just about every style and budget are represented here. It’s all surprisingly compact, an easy drive from one point of view to the other, with an infrastructure of good roads and solid schools. There’s real value here, as real estate prices tend to be lower on average than in other parts of New Jersey making the area a much more affordable option School choice is as diverse as the community itself, with top-rated K-12 public and charter schools, secular and religious private schools, alternative and preparatory schools and a wide range of daycare and after-school resources. Top-ranked area high schools include Mainland Regional and Ocean City, and southern New Jersey is home to Stockton University, Rowan University, Rutgers University Camden, Cape Atlantic Community College and Cumberland Community College. Within a day’s drive is an almost limitless portfolio of higher learning institutions, including some of the world’s most respected Ivy League schools. In making your home here, you’ll find a house that complements your family’s lifestyle, educational needs and recreational pursuits, a neighborhood you can call your own and access to just about everything you could want or need.

This place truly has it all.
