Personal Observance Leave (POL) Number: F-25 Revision: 0 Effective Date: 07-01-2024 1.0 POLICY

T he City of Greensboro will grant eight hours of fully paid leave, to eligible employees for a day of personal observance, which can be utilized for a day of significance, cultural, religious, or personal observation. 2.0 PURPOSE T he City strives to be an employer of choice. By accommodating individual differences, we foster a culture of respect, belonging and understanding within our organization. This policy underscores our commitment to inclusivity by acknowledging and respecting the diverse backgrounds and beliefs of our employees. 3.0 SCOPE This policy applies to employees in all benefit eligible positions. 4.0 DEFINITIONS 4.1 Personal Observance Leave (POL) - Leave that may be taken for any single day of personal observation, but is not limited to, days of religious or cultural importance. 4.2 Benefit Eligible - Full time and part time employees who are eligible for coverage and participation in the City’s benefit programs. See the appendix document, Position Types on page 427. 4.3 Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) - Leave that allows time off for any employee who has worked for the City for at least 12 months and at least 1,250 hours during the preceding twelve months for covered events. 4.4 Probationary Period - The probationary period for benefit eligible employees is six (6) months from the date of hire. For Firefighters, the probationary period is twelve (12) months beginning on the date of hire. For Police Officers, the probationary period is from the date of hire and extends to twelve (12) months after the employee is sworn in as a Greensboro Police Officer. 5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES Employees will be credited a designated number of hours each calendar year beginning January 1 as shown in the following table to be taken in a single day (work shift) of personal significance.
