P OLICY ON I NFECTIOUS AND C OMMUNICABLE D ISEASES , I NCLUDING AIDS

INTRODUCTION Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) has emerged as a major public health issue that has or may affect all segments of society, including the ____________ Community College District. The _______________ Community College District is committed to protecting the rights of persons with AIDS, and of those who interact with them in the course of their normal activities. To that end, the District hereby adopts the following policy statement, guidelines and directions to its staff. POLICY STATEMENT The ______________ Community College District does not discriminate in its employment policies solely on the basis of exposure to infectious or communicable diseases, or the physical conditions produced by such a disease. The District is committed to a course of action which will prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including the AIDS virus, and reduce fears and dispel myths about the disease of AIDS. The following guidelines are intended by the District to balance the interests of persons suffering from such diseases with the interests of the District in protecting its employees from any dangers associated with those diseases. The Chancellor is directed to adopt any necessary regulations which are consistent with the following guidelines, and to use them to determine, on a case-by-case basis, whether persons infected with such diseases should be isolated or excluded. GUIDELINES The following guidelines are based on current epidemiological data indicating that employees with AIDS, AIDS Related Complex (ARC), or a positive HTLV-III antibody tests do not generally pose a health risk to other employees in a regular work setting.
