Первоуральский новотрубный завод – крупнейшее и успешнейшее предприятие своего профиля не только в России, но и в Европе, уровень безработицы в городе социально приемлемый, торговля идёт бойко, ввиду расположения города на важнейших федеральных трассах и железнодорожных ветках он хорошо связан с внешним миром. Настоящее Первоуральска, которому в 2012 году исполнится 280 лет, выглядит вполне оптимистично. Еще в 19 веке один из исследователей писал о жителях уральских поселений: «С благосостояни- ем завода тесно, неразрывно связано и его [жителя] собственное благосостояние. Идёт завод хорошо – и ему хорошо, идёт плохо – и ему плохо». Город Пер- воуральск – наследник Шайтанских заводов, постро- енных Демидовыми, не раз менявших хозяев, ока- зывавшихся предметом имущественных споров и местом народных волнений. В пореформенное вре- мя заводы работали очень успешно, и Д. И. Менде- леев, посетив Шайтанский завод, писал в 1899 году: «Село огромное и, видимо, богатое, народ весь одет исправно, довольство, видное тут, очевидно, зависит от заработков на заводах». Промышленный кризис начала 20 века заставил искать новые пути развития. В 1920 году был открыт Шайтанский трубопрокатный завод, а поселок пере- именовали в Первоуральский. В 1934 году в ставшем к этому времени городом Первоуральске зарабо- тал завод-гигант – Новотрубный. В 1941 году на базе одного из рудников был размещен авторемонтный завод из Кривого Рога, чуть позже превратившийся в завод горного оборудования.

Pervouralsk, a 280 years old town, has quite an opti- mistic present. The Pervouralsky Novotrubny plant lo- cated in Pervouralsk is the biggest and the most success- ful enterprise of this profile not only in Russia but also in Europe. As a result, the level of unemployment in the town is socially allowable, the trade is profitable, and thanks to the town’s location on the main federal auto and railway routes it is well connected with the world. As far back as the 19th century an explorer wrote about the interconnection between the inhabitants of Ural settlements and the economic engines of the towns: “his [an inhabitant’s] personal wealth is inseparable from the wealth of the plant. If the plant is doing good, he feels good, if the plant is doing bad— he feels bad as well.” The town of Pervouralsk is an heir of the Shaitan plants built by the Demidoff family and owned by different people in different times—a subject to property disputes and civil riots. However, after reforms in Russia during the mid-19th century, the plants were once again operating successfully. After a visit to Shaitan plant in 1899, Dmitry Mendeleev wrote: “The village is huge and apparently rich, the people are dressed properly, the wealth evidently depends upon earnings from plants.” The industrial crisis of the beginning of the 20th century made the town seek new ways of development. In 1920 a Shaitan pipe rolling plant opened and a village was renamed as Pervouralsk. By 1934 Pervouralsk became a town, and a giant plant Novotrubny was launched. In 1941 an auto repair plant was transferred here from Krivoy Rog, and later became a plant of mining equipment.
