ALCALA '83 YEARBOOK STAFF Editor Michael Wayne Anthony Fowlkes

If I had been asked what I would be doing my Senior year, being Yearbook Editor would not have been on my list. With four years experience on the yearbook staff, I had seen many different styles of producing a good yearbook. When my turn came to take the reins I decided to implement a new ap proach by using more color, more pictures and ex tending theamount of pages. I also felt that by using a bigger staff and division of labor, the yearbook could be produced more efficiently. A larger staff means fewer and more flexible working hours for everyone. With my innovative ideas and the reputa tion that the yearbook has hadof starting out with50 people and ending with 10 doing all the work, many of the past editors told methat my ideas just couldn't be implemented . . well it worked, I did it!! I admit, we ran into a few problems, but with the cooperation and dedication Ireceived we made all of our deadlines (afirst!) and in addition accumulated almost 30 daysextention time on our final deadline by sending in more pages than necessary to the com pany. Accordingto a source from Josten's,the Alcala was the most efficiently run yearbook they had ever seen, and on top of that the qualitywas excellent! My staff was awesome!!! The combination of ex perienced, returningupperclassmen and talented, ea ger freshmen worked very well. Sherry Smith, Lay out Editor, was fantastic, planning for the coming year over the summer, coordinating her staff and coming up with some newand original ideas for the layout of the book. Her knowledge and expertise were immeasurable. Yolanda Lewis,Copy Editor,ad ded the quality copy and creativewriting that a year book should have. She is a very talented writer who possesses an incredible amount of creativity, and I deeply appreciate her dedication and diligence. (Thanks for those all-nighters!!) Karen Moore, Mar keting Editor, had the tedious job ofmarketing the yearbook. By initiatinga mailing drive over the sum mer andanother one in theSpring, she had nearly70 percent of the books sold by April 1. Katherine "McKevitt" Farrand served as assistant editor with her combined knowledge of Photogra phy, Layout, and trouble shooting. JudithRowell's improved layoutability proved to be incredibly valu able around deadlinetime. Other dedicated members were AnnetteCarlson, Chris Gualtieri, Kathy Quinn, Spence Webster, Lisa Detkos, Linda Anderson, Tripp Howiler, Bonnie Kieta, Lisa Rosales, Greg Bart, Pam Fatica,Tammy Schmitt,Therese Gereau, Sue Pardee,Paula Dobin, Mary Francis,Kathy Otto, J.P. Foley, andKaty Smith. At this time I'dlike to thank my parentsAlma and Oscar Fowlkes, the Yearbook Staff, Barbara Schmitz, Ed Shoen, my friends, the ASB, the USDAdminis tration, and theUSD students, for their encourage ment, help, and support in putting together thispro duction. I hope this book is above par.
