Dear Reader

In 2018 we’ve seen the overall inland shipping industry grow at a steady pace, driven by a recovered economy. Market lead times for new vessels are rising and quality levels are under pressure. At the same time we see market dynamics influenced by trends of globalization, urbanization, increasing strict emissions regulations, and digitization. With our customers we leverage the opportunities resulting from these trends and dynamics. As a shipyard independent company we have been able to expand our partner shipyard network while maintaining our high quality standard. We are collaborating, in addition to our home-based and eastern Europe based yards, with Chinese yards to push back delivery times and building cost. With our own dedicated people on the ground locally we ensure best in class quality control and project management. On the other hand our in-house design team has been heavily focusing on the drawing table developing new models to anticipate changing market requirements and adhere to ADN regulations and Stage V engine requirements. 2018 was also a year of exceptional low tides. This has led to the development of the low water runner (ie MoneyMaker 2.0 and MoneyMaker 3.0), an extended ship with a bigger floating surface thus allowing to sail lower tides. By investing time in ship design ahead of the market we deliver our clients minimum design time while guaranteeing future-proof designs. That is how we ensure minimal lead times and optimum quality. It is our renown RensenDriessen Standard. Delivered from our smart engineering to post-delivery support to our trading-in service. Every step along the way. All services under one roof brought to you by our dedicated and experienced team. And as we are approaching two corner stones in our history – our 1,000th launch is coming up later this year and our 40-year anniversary next year – I can safely say we are at the same time ensuring our team is future-proof with a new generation entering our board. I’m proud to announce Edwin Diepeveen has become a partner at RensenDriessen.

The newest of our 980 launches to date are in this book. I hope you enjoy reading it.

I wish you a prosperous business.

With the warmest wishes, on behalf of our entire team.

COMPANY PROFILE RensenDriessen stands for high-quality vessels and close proximity to our customers and partners. Our customers face a continuous need to improve their cost-efficiency and reduce their total cost of ownership. We adapt to this need by continuously innovating so we can service these ever changing requirements in the best possible way. Maximum efficiency in inland shipping solutions is ensured by absolute reliability.

6

Founded in 1980 in Zwijndrecht – within a stone’s throw of Rotterdam and still our home base – we’ve been building ships for almost four decades now. We’ve been through the ups and downs in this market and we can safely say with 980 ships built to date, we know how to anticipate ever- changing market conditions and customer demands. We are very clear on our role in this world. We enable inland ship owners to use the ships they need to deliver their long-term business goals. We bring a commitment of exceptional customer focus to everything we do – from our smart engineering to post-delivery support, every step along the way. We do this through our partnership approach and offering tailor-made shipbuilding solutions where you need them. And with every ship completed, we see our way of working resonating. Based on our performance over the years, RensenDriessen ships have come to stand for quality, trust and efficiency. And we will continue to meet and surpass this standard every day. We’re not afraid to set big goals - we aim to be the European industry benchmark for quality and value creation in the niche markets of inland ship design, building and brokerage. Anchored in values and strong ethics, RensenDriessen achieves success through excellence and innovation, with a sharp focus on customer demand. We understand your business situation holistically and anticipate your needs.

SHIP DESIGN Never settle. Never compromise. That has been our design motto ever since our beginnings in 1980. Our designers are constantly tweaking and experimenting until we can confidently claim our ship designs do what they are supposed to do: help you bring out the best of your ship. Because at RensenDriessen, it’s all about you. The science of ship design starts with the art of the conversation. We’ll be listening closely, talking, and interpreting your exact needs, helping you imagine what an excellent ship would look like for your particular business. We’re here to meet and exceed your expectations on quality, delivery times, design, maintenance cost, and resale value. Every part of the design and development is supervised under one roof for optimal quality control. Our in-house design team has the extensive skills, expertise, and experience to translate your design requirements into a tailor-made vessel design, up until the very last detail. And if an existing design fits your purpose, we’re your partner too. The spirit of innovation drives every action at RensenDriessen. A continuous effort at developing cutting-edge technologies and design solutions allows us to create a positive customer experience and improve efficiencies. And that ultimately leads to value creation.

Sustainable value creation

Currently we are focusing a lot of effort on realistic applications of sustainable solutions. There is a lot talk about sustainability in itself and it is our firm believe there is only future for sustainable value creation, as sustainability and value creation need to go hand in hand in order to be future proof. That is why we integrate Clean Ship Design only in such ways it leads to value creation. We do this across the entire spectrum of design, including vessel design, materials used, propulsion installation, and other installations such as the recycling of waste heat. The Stage V motor development is a great example of sustainable value creation. Through our short lines of communication with the 3 biggest engine manufacturers we are capable to advice timely on the latest developments regarding stage V. For each design we will set out the best suited engine foundation.

SHIPBUILDING Once the construction drawing is signed off and the design has been approved, we will select a shipyard based on quality, availability and lead times and overall match with our design. As a shipyard-independent company, we maintain close partnerships with several shipyards at home and abroad. This enables us to find the best fit for your specific ship design and needs, while guaranteeing RensenDriessen quality.

Our building surveyors will fully manage the operation on your behalf, from start to finish. This ensures project progress and timely supply deliveries and inspections. After the hull build is completed and inspected, the hull will be transported to The Netherlands. Optionally, we offer you our turn-key delivery. Together with you, we select one of our reputable completion-build yards. We are here to meet and exceed your needs. We call it our RensenDriessen Standard. In short, this means you can leave any worrying up to us. We guarantee you the quality and lead time of your vessel. No matter what. No matter when.

DELIVERED IN 2018 / BITUMINA / BITUMEN TANKER

Some time ago there was renewed demand for new, high-quality bitumen tankers. Together with V-Chartering, Rommerts Ship Design, TeamCo and EPS we developed a new model type-C bitumen tanker. Our design is for a triple-hull ship that can transport products up to 250 degrees Celsius. EPS has developed customized pumps for both ships and installed them on board. The first ship – the Bitumina – is already sailing with Bitumina Shipping SA. The ship is chartered by V-Chartering Antwerp. Its sister ship “Bitumina 2” will start sailing as soon as it is ready in early 2019.

39

ENGLISH

MTS FLORIAN: THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO IMPROVE…

MTD Maritime Services & Port Reception Facility in Antwerp is an authorised ‘port reception facility’ * . The company is strategically located at quay 373 along the Scheldelaan in Antwerp. MTD Maritime Services collects the waste in the Antwerp to Zeebrugge area; MTD Port Reception Facility then processes and/or further separates the waste for recycling via large installations. There are also facilities for degassing, steam supply and cleaning at the site.

* On arrival at their port of destination, seagoing vessels must inform the authorities by report of the waste materials they have on board that were accumulated during their voyage. After reporting and documentation, the waste may only be disposed of at an authorised ‘port reception facility’. This applies both to solid matter and liquid substances as well as to residual load. In short – and this is by no means complete – for solid matter it means food-waste, plastic, rags and paper. Liquid substances include oil and oil-bearing residues and latrine waste.

40

It is also the place where we waited for our interview at the office of Jeroen Vermeij (33). He lives in Wemeldinge and has been hopping on board his grandfather’s and father’s dry cargo and tanker ships since childhood. His father now has five ships in operation which have been handling the collection for MTD Maritime Services since 2010. During our conversation it became apparent that Vermeij had a broad, deeply-rooted technical background and that his hunger for new technology is never satisfied. As operations manager, Jeroen Vermeij has many tasks in the various disciplines at MTD in which mastery of technology in addition to coping with stress is an absolute necessity. Safety is his highest concern and there is no room for anyone to question that. From Wemeldinge Vermeij also manages vessels deployed for the collection for MTD B.V. The beginning of last year was an opportune time to begin working on the warehoused plans to replace single-hulled ships with new constructions. Vermeij knew exactly how the first newly built ship should look and what it needed to be equipped with. Having these concrete plans in mind, he did a preliminary investigation in country to see what kind of thing was available. “Nothing matched my requirements, but then I quickly came round to Wim Driessen at Rensen- Driessen Shipbuilding B.V.,” Jeroen relates. They had initially met each other seven years earlier and since then the contact continued to develop in a friendly way. The topic of new construction also came up more than once in the last years, but Vermeij was not yet ready then. “I did tell Driessen at that time that when my plans for new construction took solid shape I would be at his door.” “I have completely fulfilled that promise,” Vermeij continues. A number of discussions followed. Vermeij’s wish was to get a fully duplicate pipe system. “Considering the specific work that the

ship would have to do within a small range of action, we knew that it never be under full sail in doing so. We therefore decided to maximise stability by having a centre bulkhead placed between tank one and tank five. Thus on balance, with those 2ps+2ss+3 centre we have seven tanks,” says Vermeij. He also had a specific requirement for the placement of extremely large filter tanks on deck, which would be equipped with unusually heavy covers so they could bear a great amount of pressure. “Is that really necessary?” “If you saw what we take out of there, you would know that it certainly is necessary. We recently found a complete boiler suit,” we hear. Furthermore, the installation of a 2.5 tonne heavy-duty Van Wijk self-propelled crane with a maximum swing of 12 to 18 metres was stipulated. Later, all items were neatly specified in the contract for the complete turnkey delivery of a newly constructed 84,70 x 9,50 x 4,68 metre slops tanker and approved by the signatures of MTD B.V. and Wim Driessen. With that, the first step towards the fleet renewal for the MTD B.V. in Wemeldinge was complete. Furthermore, with a few minor adjustments the ship can be deployed as a bunkering vessel. In that case, the self- propelled crane on deck has to be replaced with a boom crutch, the foundation for which is already included in the construction. Vermeij visited the shipyard in Orsova several times during construction. “It’s going great in Romania,” he reports. And since Jeroen is a dedicated follower of the precept ‘just act normal’, he got along fine with the people at the shipyard. He was impressed with the quality they provided. “Really very well built and really beautifully finished.” Nice compliments from someone who knows everything about technology and can never omit anything or overlook something. Together with MTD founder Roger van Triest and Wim Driessen, he experienced the unforgettable moment at the shipyard in Orsova

when the MTS Florian had water under the keel for the first time. Florian is also his son’s name and that of Roger van Triest’s grandson. It was a complete surprise that, while having a chat with Wim Driessen, MTD B.V. then mentioned that it was their wish to immediately order a sister ship. What better way could there be to cinch the basis of trust at that moment? What we heard during the finishing stage at Dolderman was also good. Vermeij was there regularly, at work with his sleeves rolled up and with all input there in proper consultation. And yes, naturally, occasional problems came up. Discussions with Wim Driessen on obstacles like that never last long, and that applies to finding the solutions as well. Everything always in mutual consultation and sometimes pouring a little oil on the water and without getting into great detail. The sea trials were fantastic: we sailed 21 km/hour with 1100 tonnes. At the time of our interview the ship had been sailing entirely satisfactorily for more than half a year. “I don’t know what else we could have added, there is nothing more to improve,” we hear. And with that qualification, the sister ship MTS Elliot is expected shortly. Even the naming was once again derived from the name of one of Roger van Triest’s grandsons and that of an MTD colleague in Antwerp. There is just one change: the second new ship has a single pipe system.

CURRENT PROJECTS

There are currently more than 30 RensenDriessen vessels under construction at carefully selected partner yards. We have dedicated and full-time construction supervision for each and every one of them. That’s how we can guarantee the high RensenDriessen quality standard in our shipbuilding. We maintain full focus on the entire building process, frequently talking to our surveyors and actively managing the planning, building, licensing, and budgeting of our vessels.
