"In the words of the Holy Fath- er, 'we have failed humiliatingly'." The letter was signed by Pauline Korander, class secretary. Members of the senior class of the Cathedral Girls' High School wrote: "Your Excellency: On the eve of our graduation from Cathedral Girls' High School, realizing the privileges that have been ours during the past f o u r years, we wish to protest the ac- tion of the Sarl Diego School Board of Education regarding the Re- leased Time Program. Since the Supreme Court of California has upheld the constitutionality of the plan, it seems strange that our San Diego should place itself on record as being unfavorable to Released Time. "We delight in our heritage as native Calitornians. We point with pride to the site of our First Mis- sion. We speak of Spanish culture, I architecture and civilization but have we not departed far from the standards of Junipero Serra'! The San Diego School Board claims that Released Time Pro- gram interferes with the curricu- lum-do not the members of the Board realize that a student wno knows, loves and serves God is one who will live and die for his coun- try? "The mature gentlemen who are trying to handle world affairs to- day are not doing so well. Could the reason be they are ignorant of God? Would you please issue our complaint to the Board of Educa- tion so that boys and girls who are attending public schools in our San Diego may pe given a chance to become better citizens."
