HE progressive spirit of Riverside demands a Catholic hospital in that flourishing city. Many of its leading citizens, realizing the need for more adequate hospitalization, have frequently petitioned the Most Reverend Bishop in this regard. While His Excellency has agreed to negotiate for an Order of Sisters to staff such a hospital, he suggested to a committee of doctors, who approached him on the subject, that they organize the district with a view to raising the necessary funds through the customary channels of state and federal subsidies. It is understood that the present University Foundation Fund could not pos- sibly include the building of a hospital in Riverside. It does, however, wish to endorse the plan and to cooperate in assigning any donations so specified for this particular purpose.

fl ESIDES the medical clinics now functioning in San Bernardino, Brawley and San Diego, similar havens for the destitute infirm are needed in Arlington, Redlands and El Centro. We cannot pretend to be followers of Jesus Christ and neglect the corporal works of mercy.

The charities that soothe, and heal, and bless, lie scattered at the feet of men like flowers.
