OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE DIOCESE OF SAN DIEGO, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1946 ST. AGNES SCHOOL RECENTLY DEDICATED

' BISHOP DEDICATES ST. AGNES SCHOOL ON SEPTEMBER 15 St. Agnes parish's new gram- mar school, located at 3240 Can- , yon Street, Point Loma, was dedi- cated Sunday afternoon, Septem- ber 15, by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bishop, in the presence of more than 20 priests and monsignori, including the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Laurence Forristal, pastor, and many members of the parish and their friends. The sermon at the dedication of the recently-completed two story reinforced concrete building was preached by the Very Rev. Frank- lin F. Burd, diocesan superintend- ent of schools and rector of St. Joseph's Cathedral. In his strong, logical sermon Father Hurd stressed the advan- tages of a Catholic education,- pointing out the importance of well-balanced training that can be gained in a Catholic school where the program properly begins with fundamentals so often ignored in present day "education." The school building is a tribute to William Lodge, architect, and the Golden Construction Co., who have been receiving warm com- mendation for their work on the beautiful structure. Classes in the new school began Monday, September 16, when a capacity enrollment of 262 stu- dents began their training in all eight grades. They are being taught by five Sisters of St. Jos- eph of Orange.
