SSC SERVICE SOLUTIONS Newsletter JUNE/ JULY 2019

For us, this has been a year of storytelling: looking back on where SSC started and how we have grown. Earlier this week, we were fortunate to have Sherry Lee, Baxter’s wife, come by the office to share her stories. Here is her beginning: “SSC is my life story, and it is really hard for me to believe, 50 years have already passed. I was a 23-year-old teacher at Webb School when I met Baxter. He was just out of the army and wanted to start a business. My dad was an engineer who worked for the government and who wanted me to go back to Texas and marry a nice man, not to find a husband from Tennessee who didn’t get to finish college because he had been drafted and who didn’t have a job, but instead wanted to start his own business. I never thought about marrying a janitor, and we had no idea how things would work out. I knew nothing about starting a business or running a business, but we trusted each other. We had a one-bedroom apartment. Baxter had a 10-year-old Volkswagon he had bought while he was in the army. We were young and excited about beginning our lives. Now look where we are; how amazing to be here celebrating 50 years.”

Grounds Tips for your Home: Well, this week I’m going to prune my knockout roses and hit them up with some liquid fertilizer to get a fall bloom out of them. I will also fertilize all my other shrubs with organic fertilizer this weekend. Most horticulturists will tell you not to fertilize now because it will stimulate new growth into the fall on shrubs, they are correct based on using synthetic fertilizers which are quick - acting, organic is slow and takes up to 45 days to be available to the plant. Perfect timing for a fall feeding, and yes, I have my plant tone, holly tone and rose tone!

Please welcome Caldwell University, Royce City ISD, Simpson College, Everman, ISD, and Chestnut Hill College to the SSC Family in the first phase of summer startups, and so far, 5 more are expected for phase 2. If you see a STAT (Start-up, Transition and Troubleshooting) Team Member actually sitting still with a distant stare, do not asset deliveries, and trying to remember if that was their 38th maid cart assembled today or 39th. Please just pass them a coffee and help assemble cart 40, or was it 39? While summer is the time some sites are able to pause and catch their collective breath, for those on Start- up teams the summer is when the real work begins. be alarmed; they are merely going through mental checklists of employee files, staffing charts, building walk-throughs, inventory counts, safety training,

Make SSC Great

Some might say it's tacky to brag, but I’m happy to ignore them because our employees deserve all the praises and awards they have earned. SSC is a company that stands apart because our people stand apart. They hold each other to the highest standards, and people take note. Just look at the stories that have come across my desk recently:

Henry Co Schools in Georgia hosted their 4th annual employee appreciation day for the SSC Team. There was BBQ, raffles and plenty of smiling faces as Regional Director of Operations, Bob Cox, joined in on the serving line to serve the SSC Team

and guests from the District as well, “ We had a great lunch celebrating the achievements of our frontline associates that work hard every day to create a clean and welcoming environment for students, parents , and teachers. It is my pleasure to be associated with so many great employees that put forth such dedication!”
