marine at TE. “The Instalite lightweight braid
has the ability to save weight while providing
a high level of EMI screening across a wide
frequency range.”
Instalite lightweight braid is available in
diameters between 3mm and 20mm, and
installs and performs as a traditional metal
braid. Instalite is also flexible, making it is easy
to handle, and uses existing installation and
termination methods and equipment for
easy integration into current applications.
Optic fiber security
Israel’s Magal Security Systems Ltd has
received an order to secure over 200km
of buried pipeline with its fiber optic sensor
system. The system is based on Magal's long
range fiber solution, where a standard single
mode fiber optic cable is buried along a
pipeline with a processor that can cover
tens of kilometers, and detect digging close
to the pipeline with accurate location within
10 meters.
Saar Koursh, CEO of Magal S3, said: “I am
very proud of this order as it is a major win
for our fiber business, resulting from many
demos, trials, proofs of concept and smaller
projects,” adding: “This is an emerging
market with a potential size of tens of
thousands of kilometers.”
Extrusion crosshead
Unitek Crossheads’ new UXH0710 series of
fixed center crossheads can be used for single
layer, stripe or skin layer insulation on fiber
optic cable insulating and jacketing lines.
The simple, compact design of the UXH0710
series is said to make it ideal for insulating
extremely flexible fiber optic cables and
fibers. The short length of the head makes
for easy set-up and feeding-in of the cable
or fiber and, once assembled, the fixed
centered head will immediately run a highly
concentric product.
Tooling is extracted in three steps from
the exit side of the crosshead without the
need to remove any heaters. The head
design is based on proven flow technology
implemented on its fluoropolymer heads,
and was tested in collaboration with
customers requesting smaller sized, more
user-friendly heads.
The fixed center crosshead allows for a
repeatable, immediate concentric start up
for reduced scrap and over insulation. The
smaller inner volume minimizes resonance
time in the crosshead and is suitable for
smaller gauge conductors as well as solid or
foamed insulations. A 13mm (0.512”) bore
reduces melt pressure, allowing faster line
speeds at lower pressures.
The UXH0710 series is capable of processing
conductors up to 7mm (0.275") in diameter
and an insulated diameter up to 10.5mm
(0.413").
Welcome return
Dayton Power and Light in Ohio is the
first customer to take delivery of Kerite’s
2,500kcmil 15kV power cable. Kerite’s
previous production of the cable ceased in
2005.
