Summary
The accuracy data for fluoride met the criteria specified in the SMPR (RSD ≤ 15%) with
the exception of AN high fat sample with RSD of 15.3%. The limit of quantitation was estimated
to be 4.31
µ
g/L. The limit of detection was estimated to be 1.30
µ
g/L. Acceptable linearity was
demonstrated over a range of 20 to 1000 µg/L.
This method is found to be suitable for the analysis of fluoride in IF and AN formulas
except few samples didn’t comply with some of the SMPR specifications. This is due to the fact
that fluoride is present in very low concentrations in these products. Sample preparation used in
this method was optimized to achieve the analysis of both fluoride and chloride anions in a single
method. Further optimization of the method can be done (less sample dilution) to reevaluate the
fluoride in IF and AN products.
