CALPERS RETIREMENT

The City has contracted with CalPERS to provide retirement benefits and medical coverage after

you retire. To be eligible for service retirement, you must be at least age 50 (or 52 for

Miscellaneous members subject to Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA)) and have a

minimum of 5 years of CalPERS-credited service. To be eligible for retiree medical coverage, your

CalPERS retirement date must be within 120 days of separation from the City.

Three factors are used to calculate your retirement benefits:

Service credit – It accumulates on a fiscal year basis from July 1 through June 30

Benefit factor – This is determined by your age at retirement and retirement formula that

is contracted for your employee group.

Final highest year (12 consecutive months average, or 36 months average for members

subject to PEPRA) of compensation

Who is Eligible For Coverage?

All regular full-time and part-time employees, and casual employees who are pre-existing

CalPERS members.

When Are You Eligible For Coverage?

The first day of your employment.
