Kampala has expanded since 1974, and its area is currently estimated at 197 km

.
Land use is mixed throughout the district, consisting of the built up areas, agricultural
land, rangelands and conservation areas. There are essentially three broad land use
categories: agricultural land, built-up areas, and those reserved for conservation.
