Product Certification
• Certificates provide a convenient way of demonstrating
compliance with IEC 61508
• Users must “interpret” certificates and associated documents
(reports, safety manuals etc) to assess suitability for application
• Increasingly we are seeing more mention of Systematic Capability
- but mostly in addition to SIL capability
• But some certificates will still only refer to “SIL capability” and in
so doing will imply an equivalent SC
• There is still a lot of variability and certificates still need to be
interpreted carefully.
