Summary

To deliver a SIS which provides the necessary risk reduction and is operable and maintainable requires

a collaborative lifecycle approach. This will only be achieved if expectations are clearly stated at the

beginning of the projects, and key stakeholders remain accountable throughout all phases of the

lifecycle.

The adoption of appropriate tools support the recording of the risk assessments, design and

implementations in a simplified way, and enable the delivering the lifecycle information to the end

user in a format that can easily understood, and therefore encourage operator engagement.

Having the ability to connect the vast amount of available data to the digitalized lifecycle records then

provides the automatic communication of the health of the barriers which can be used within operation

and maintenance decision support tools. This provide the necessary platform for sustained safe and

reliable operations, improved performance and the necessary information in the right context to

answer all 3 questions and prevent the hole alignment which can lead to a high profile process safety

incident.
