What are we trying to prove?

That the SIF does what it should

‣

That it is reliable enough (has a low enough PFD)

‣

That we have systems in place to prevent “new” systematic failures

‣

What are we not trying to prove?

‣

That it is compliant with 61511 prior use (or 61508 proven in use)

‣

That there are few “historic” systematic failures

‣

Perhaps we should, but we aren’t
