Main steps in the Radiation Treatment Planning process
1. Define treatment volumes / risk organs
2. Define optimal beam setup
3. Calculate dose distribution within the patient and
treatment times per beam (Monitor Units)
4. Plan evaluation
Successful radiotherapy requires a uniform dose distribution
within the target (tumor).
ICRU 50/62 recommends target dose uniformity
within +7% and -5%
of the prescribed tumor dose
