D

o not blame yourself, but more importantly,

do not get cross with your puppy. If you find

a mess, simply clean it up, making sure you

use a deodorizer so he is not tempted to go in the

same place again. There is no point in scolding your

puppy after the event—he will not associate the

scolding with what he has done, and you will only

confuse him.

If you catch your puppy red-handed, pick him up,

take him out to his toileting area and give him

the verbal cue you have taught him. If he obliges,

remember to give lots of praise.

Puppies tend to give warning signals before they

go, so be on the alert if you see your pup sniffing or

circling when he is in the house. Take him outside

without delay.
