In the first few weeks of arriving in his new home,

allow your pup to have the following experiences,

making sure they are always positive so that he

grows in confidence:

• Introduce him to household equipment, such as

the washing machine and the vacuum cleaner.

• If your house does do not have children, arrange

to meet some, making sure all interactions are

carefully supervised.

• Accustom your pup to meeting visitors to the

house—particularly people who may be wearing

uniform or carting unfamiliar equipment.

• If you do not have a dog at home, arrange for a

dog of sound temperament that is fully vaccinated

to come and visit.

• Take your pup out in the car for short outings.

• You will have to wait until your puppy is fully

vaccinated before he can walk on the lead outside

your home. But you can carry him along a quiet

road so that he gets used to traffic, and to meeting

passers-by who will want to give him a stroke.
